Gabriela Firea

Gabriela Firea (* 13 July 1972 in Bacau as Gabriela Vranceanu ) is a Romanian journalist and politician of the PSD . She has been the mayor of Bucharest since 2016 .

Journalist

She attended school in Bacau and graduated from the Faculty of Literature at the University of Bucharest until 1994 . Then Firea attended the Bucharest Business Academy . At the same time she worked for newspapers, still in Bacau for Pur și simplu and after moving to Bucharest for Azi and later for the radio station Radio Contact . From 1993 to 1999 she was a reporter, editor and presenter for TVR .

From 1999 to 2000 Firea was State Secretary and Head of Communications in Mugur Isărescu's government . After Isărescu was voted out, she went back to television, this time to Antena 1 and in 2005 to Antena 3 , where she moderated the Știrea zilei on weekdays at 8:00 p.m. until 2011 . At the same time, from 2005 she was editor-in-chief of the newly founded weekly magazine Săptămâna Financiară . From 2011 she presented the Gabi Firea Show weekly on Antena 1 .

In 2012 Firea decided to join the PSD in Ilfov County and run for the Senate . In the parliamentary elections in Romania in 2012 , she won the mandate with 74.62%. In 2016 she ran for the office of mayor of the Romanian capital Bucharest. With the support of the PSD and UNPR, she won the election with 42.97%.

family

Gabriela Vrânceanu married Răsvan Firea in 1993. In 1995 she became the mother of a son. In 2010 her husband died. Eight months later she married Florentin Pandele , Mayor of Voluntari , with whom she had two children in 2012 and 2015.
