Gabriela Lourdes "Gaby" Pérez del Solar Cuculiza (born July 10, 1968 in Ica ) is a Peruvian national volleyball player and politician .

Volleyball career

Pérez del Solar took part in the Olympic Games twice in a row with the Peruvian national team. At the age of 16, she finished fourth in Los Angeles in 1984 and won the silver medal in Seoul in 1988 . The middle blocker finished third at the 1986 World Cup in Czechoslovakia and sixth at the 1990 World Cup in China . She was also four times South American champion and came in the Pan American Games twice in the medal ranks.

At club level, Pérez del Solar first played in Lima at Club de Regatas and in the 1992 season finale at Alianza, where she won the national championship title. Apart from that, she worked for top Italian clubs (apart from an interlude from 1997 to 1999 in Japan with Ito Yokado Tokyo): Pallavolo Reggio Calabria , Olimpia Teodora Ravenna , Pallavolo Femminile Matera , Volley Modena , Foppapedretti Bergamo and Vicenza Volley . She won the Italian championship three times, the Italian Cup twice and, at European level, the Champions League and the Cup Winners' Cup three times .

Pérez del Solar has received many awards as “Most Valuable Player” ( MVP ), “Best Attacker”, “Best Block Player” etc. In 2010 she was inducted into the " Volleyball Hall of Fame ".
