Life

After graduating from school, Gabriele Wichert completed an apprenticeship as a qualified librarian , a profession that she claimed to be hers in the last years of her life.

Wichert was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and, as chairwoman of the former SPD local association Südstadt-West, played a key role in the merger with the former SPD local association Südtstadt-Ost / Bult into what would later become the SPD local association Südstadt-Bult.

In local politics, Wichert was involved from 1991 to 2011 in the association assembly of the Greater Hanover Municipal Association, in which she acted as chairwoman of the SPD, and in the representation of the Hanover region . There she worked, among other things, as a member of the committee for environmental and local recreation and the regional committee. In addition, she was particularly involved in the further development of the Hanover Zoo : As chairman of the supervisory board , she was responsible for the subsequent contract extension of Machens after the zoo managing director Klaus-Michael Machens resigned himself in 2005.

In addition, Gabriele Wichert worked as the federal manager of the German Child Protection Association and as such worked for children, parents and families in the media across the region, for example in 2006 on the third day for non-violent upbringing .

Gabriele Wichert was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor of the Hanover Region for her decades of work “for the benefit of the people in the Hanover region ”.

Gabriele Wichert was honored with the Willy Brandt Medal in 2016 for her great services .

The local politician was also involved in her own district of Südstadt-Bult , who last worked as an assessor in her local association and lived at Annenstrasse 8 : " Easter bonfires and children's parties, information stands and intellectual meetings were unthinkable without her contributions."
