Gallipoli Football 1909 is an Italian football club from Gallipoli , a city in the Apulia region . The club colors are yellow and red. The club's stadium is the Stadio Antonio Bianco , with space for 4,368 spectators.

history

The association was founded in 1999 as Associazione Calcio Gallipoli to represent the province of Lecce and the city of Gallipoli .

In 2004, AC Gallipoli was promoted to Serie D , the fifth highest division in Italian football, for the first time . In the same year the club changed its name and was henceforth called Gallipoli Calcio. After the first place in the Puglia season was occupied in the series D in the first season , the club made it through to the C2 series . There, too, the team immediately came first and qualified for the C1 series . His first season in the third highest Italian league in the 2006/07 season ended the team in a midfield. Former Serie A player Dario Bonetti has been hired as the new coach for the 2007-08 season. However, he was later fired because of a disagreement with the board. The team finished their second season in Serie C1 in third place in the table. Former AS Roma player and Italian international Giuseppe Giannini was appointed the new head coach for the 2008/09 season. This season ended in the greatest triumph in the club's history. The Giallorossi rose to Serie B for the first time in their young club history , after the club took first place in the Girone B of the Lega Pro Prima Divisione ahead of Benevento Calcio and FC Crotone , which was successful in the relegation for promotion against Benevento . These two teams were followed by AC Cesena and Padova Calcio in Serie B. Since the home stadium was too small for second division football, Gallipoli moved for the Serie B season to the Stadio Via del Mare in nearby Lecce , which offers space for a good 33,000 spectators .

In this first second division season , the club got off to a good start. The club created a large number of draws against teams such as US Grosseto , US Sassuolo Calcio , Ascoli Calcio and FC Empoli at the beginning . But in the second half of the series the team lost ground. They received a series of real "claps" like the 0: 5 against Vicenza Calcio or the 1: 5 against UC AlbinoLeffe and finally put the second worst defense in the league. At the end of the season, Gallipoli Calcio was second to last in the table and had to join the Lega Pro Prima Divisione just like Salernitana Calcio , AC Mantova and AC Ancona . For the third division, however, no license was obtained and started after a re-establishment for the 2010/11 season in the seventh-class promozione in the Apulia region, where the 2010/11 promotion was missed by third place. In 2014 the club was renamed Gallipoli Football 1909 .
