Venues of the Gauliga Baden 1940/41 |
The Gauliga Baden 1940/41 was the eighth season of the Gauliga Baden (since 1939: "Baden area class") in football . The league started on September 1, 1940 and ended on May 11, 1941. After the league had been divided into several seasons in the preseason due to the outbreak of war, it played again this year with ten teams. However, FC Birkenfeld withdrew its team after ten matchdays due to numerous new appointments and was thus determined early on as the first relegated team. At the top two teams dueled this season that had never intervened in the battle for the championship in previous years: VfL Neckarau and VfB Mühlburg . In the second leg of the two district clubs from Mannheim and Karlsruhe, a clear 4: 1 on the field at the Altriper ferry resulted in the preliminary decision in favor of VfL Neckarau. Mühlburg, still unbeaten first in the table after the first half of the season, was only the runner-up. This means that a Mannheim club became champions in the eighth Gauliga year, after SV Waldhof had secured four and VfR Mannheim three Baden titles. In the final round of the German championship , however, VfL had no chance. As the second relegated next to Birkenfeld, the Karlsruher FV had to go into the district class.
