Gamaret

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gamaret is a red wine variety . It is a new breed from the Federal Research Institute for Crop Production ( Agroscope RAC Changins) in Pully . 1970 developed André Jaquinet and Dominique Maigre in Pully (Canton Vaud / Switzerland) that variety by crossing of Gamay and Reichensteiner . In 1991 the variety was entered in the Swiss list of varieties . The grape variety was tested on around 120 plots (a total of 3 to 4 hectares on all major types of soil), which are scattered across the entire canton. The new breed Garanoir emerged from the same cross .

Thanks to its very high resistance to gray mold rot ( Botrytis cinerea ) and early ripening, the Gamaret is very popular with producers. The vine is now grown on an area of around 367 hectares in Switzerland (as of 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG), including on Lake Geneva ( Peissy , La Côte ). It is also cultivated in small quantities in Germany (cultivation area Württemberg). The Geisenheim research institute also operates small areas for experimental cultivation. The customer appreciates the Gamaret because of the brightly colored, spicy red wines that it delivers. The wine can be stored well.
