Sansa and Theon continue their escape from Winterfell, but are quickly found by a Bolton search party. At the last moment, Brienne and Podrick arrive, kill the Bolton soldiers, and Brienne offers Sansa again their services; this time she agrees. Jaime arrives at King's Landing with the body of Myrcella and promises Cersei that they will take revenge together. In Dorne, Areo Hotah, Prince Doran and Prince Trystane are all sneakily murdered by Ellaria and the sand snakes. In Meereen, Tyrion and Varys experience how the population turns more and more against Daenerys, and finally find the entire fleet on fire in the harbor. Jorah and Daario continue their search for Daenerys, who was captured by a Dothraki horde. After she is insulted by the Khal, the tribal leader, and his followers on Dothraki and then reveals herself to be the widow of Khal Drogo, it is decided to bring Daenerys to Vaes Dothrak, where all Khal widows have to spend their retirement years. Bran looks back into the past in a dream and recognizes his father Ned and his uncle Benjen Stark during sword fighting training in Winterfell. The young stable boy Hodor, whose real name is Willis, can still speak during this time. Cersei Lannister is held in the red keep by King Tommen for fear that something might happen to her. Jaime, who mourns Myrcella in the great sept, is meanwhile confronted by the High Sparrow, who is only too aware of his new position of power. Roose Bolton is stabbed to death by Ramsay after the birth of his son, who fears that he will lose his claim to the throne to his half-brother as a bastard. Then he lets the dogs loose on the baby and his mother Walda; at the same time, he can now rely on the loyalty of the Karstark family. On the Iron Islands, Balon Greyjoy is thrown to his death in a storm by his brother Euron "Crow's Eye", who has returned from exile, so that a king election has to be proclaimed, in which Theon's sister Asha also wants to participate as the daughter of the deceased king. In the Black Fortress, Ser Allisar and his followers can be disarmed with the help of the wildlings around Tormund Giant Death. Shortly afterwards, Ser Davos asks Lady Melisandre to bring Jon Schnee to life. Their attempts seem unsuccessful until Jon finally opens his eyes and takes a deep breath. In Meereen, Tyrion and Lord Varys look for a solution to find Daenerys again and free the two remaining dragons in the crypt from their chains. Sam, Goldie and Goldie's baby are on a ship on their way to Altsass. Sam explains to Goldie that he intends to drop her and the baby with his family in Hornberg while he is training to be a maester in Altsass. To the north of the wall, Bran has another vision from the past in which he sees his father and Howland Reet, who are looking for Ned's sister at the “Tower of Joy” (in the original Tower of Joy ) together with other companions. You face two knights of the Targaryen Kingsguard, including Ser Arthur Dayn (originally Arthur Dayne ), the best swordsman of his time. Both Royal Guards hold fast to their oath and Prince Rhaegar's orders and refuse to surrender Lyanna. A fight ensues in which Ned is defeated and is only saved because Reet attacks Ser Dayn from behind; very different from the stories Bran heard from his father, Ned, who then kills the badly injured and disarmed Dayn, does not appear here as the hero who wins honorably.

Daenerys is taken to Vaes Dothrak, where she is to spend the rest of her days with other widows of Khals, the so-called Dosh Khaleen. In Meereen, Varys discovers that the Harpy's sons are funded by the slave masters of Astapor, Yunkai and Volantis. Together with Tyrion, Missandei and Gray Worm, he comes to the conclusion that the sons of the harpy eagle can only be defeated by force. In King's Landing Tommen tries to get the High Sparrow to let Cersei visit the tomb of Myrcella, but he acts skillfully and influences the naive king. Meanwhile, Cersei and Jaime interrupt a meeting of the Minor Council and the rest of the members leave the room. Arya is allowed back into the "house of black and white" and trains with the homeless. When she finally accepts herself as a "nobody", Jaqen H'ghar gives her her eyesight back. In Winterfell, Lord Umber asks Ramsay for help, fearing an attack from Jon Snow and the Wildlings. As a present he gives Osha and Rickon Stark to Ramsay. The resurrected Jon Snow hangs his murderers, including Ser Allisar and Olly, in the Black Fortress. He hands over the command to Edd with the words "My watch is over".

Sansa Stark reaches the black fortress together with Brienne and Podrick and after a long time meets her half-brother Jon again. Later, while they are sitting at dinner, Jon receives a letter from Ramsay Bolton asking him to bring Sansa back. Sansa convinces Jon to seek help from the Wildlings and the Starks' former vassal houses to take back Winterfell and save Rickon. In Winterfell, Osha tries to murder Ramsay from behind with a knife, but falls victim to himself. Lord Baelish gives Lord Robin a hawk as a present on his return to the Green Valley. He also gets him to ride with his army to Winterfell to come to Sansa's aid. Theon returns to the Iron Islands and assures his sister Asha support for the succession to the throne.

In King's Landing Queen Margaery and Loras Tyrell are still in custody with the High Sparrow, whereupon the royal council and Cersei Lannister consider the next steps to overthrow the sparrow and his militant fanatic order. In Meereen, much to the displeasure of Missandei and Gray Worm, Tyrion Lannister agreed with the slave masters of the other cities that they would have seven years to abolish slavery if they no longer support the sons of the harpy. Jorah and Daario try to free Daenerys, but are rejected by herself because she has a different plan. The Khals have come together to judge what should happen to Daenerys as a Khal widow. Jorah and Daario kill the guard and lock the entrance to the temple. In the temple, Daenerys knocks over the braziers and lights it. All the khals burn in the great conflagration. She walks out unscathed and naked through the sea of flames, whereupon the Dothraki kneel before her.

Jon and Sansa leave the Black Fortress to secure the support of a few houses in the north and the Tullys to retake Winterfell. In Braavos, Arya is initiated into the story of the Faceless Men by Jaqen H'ghar and is given a second chance to prove her loyalty to the Many-faced God by killing the actress Lady Crane. During the play, she finds herself at odds with her loyalty to her family and the Many-faced God, as part of her family history with her father Ned and Sansa is shown in the play.

Daenerys learns that Jorah has gray scale and orders him to find a cure and then stand by her side again. She herself moves to Meereen with Daario and the Dothraki. In Meereen, Tyrion and Varys invite Kinvara, the red priestess and high priestess of the Red Temple of Volantis, to support Daenerys. On the Iron Islands, despite Asa's claim, Euron Greyjoy is elected as the new king with the promise to subdue the Seven Kingdoms. His plan is to build a fleet of 1,000 ships, to help Daenerys land in Westeros, marry her and conquer the rest of the empires together. Before Euron is crowned and can kill her, Asha and Theon flee with their followers and a fleet.

Meanwhile, Bran learns in a vision that the White Walkers were once created by the children of the forest to fight the people who threatened them several thousand years ago. Bran is touched by the Night King in a vision, which makes the cave and everyone in it vulnerable. Then the Night King appears with the White Wanderers and Revenants in front of the cave and attacks it. In the battle that follows, the Three-Eyed Raven, the Children of the Forest, and Bran's direwolf Sommer die. Directed by Bran, Hodor holds the door of the back exit to allow Brans and Meera to escape. Samwell, little Sam and Goldy arrive at Samwell's home in Hornberg, where Goldy and her son are warmly welcomed by his mother and sister. He pretends to be his own son. His father, Lord Randyll Tarly, is deeply disappointed that he wants to become a maester and that the Night Watch has not made him a real man. He learns that Goldy is a wildling, whom he hates, and has now brought a (supposed) bastard son with him. Instead of leaving Goldy and little Sam there as planned, Samwell decides to take both of them to the citadel and steals his father's Valyrian family sword, Herzbane.

In King's Landing King Tommen meets the High Sparrow and is allowed to see Margaery, who pretends to be purified. The troops of the Tyrells and Jaime Lannister march in front of the Sept of the High Sparrow in order to prevent Margaery's penance and to free her and Loras. But the penance does not take place. King Tommen and some royal guards step out of the temple. Tommen was influenced by the High Sparrow and now proclaims that the crown and faith are united. An attack against the faith is now also an attack against the crown. As a result, Jaime von Tommen is dismissed as Lord Commander of the Kings Guard.

Meanwhile, the Freys lost Schnellwasser Castle to the army of Brynden "Black Fish" Tully. But they have his nephew Edmure Tully hostage. Jaime is supposed to come to the aid of the Freys at the head of the Lannister Army and fight the Tullys. In the north, Bran and Meera are escaped from revenants by a stranger. Bran and Meera find out that it was sent by the Three-Eyed Raven and that it is Bran's uncle Benjen Stark, who was once sent by the Night's Watch against the White Walkers. Benjen was injured with an ice sword by White Walkers, but the children of the forest found him and healed him. He explains to Bran how he should prepare for his role as the new three-eyed raven.

In Braavos, Arya finally decides against poisoning the actress Lady Crane and reveals to her that her jealous colleague Bianca commissioned her murder. The homeless from the House of Black and White observed this and reported it to Jaqen H'ghar, who allowed her to kill Arya for disobedience. Arya takes her sword needle out of hiding. Daenerys Targaryen meets her dragon Drogon on the way to Meereen and swears the Dothraki on his back to sail to Westeros for them to conquer it.

Sandor Clegane survived and joined a newly emerging peaceful community. He was found and healed by their septon, a war veteran. But when the group of three riders of the Brotherhood without a banner is threatened, he is again confronted with his past. Sandor finally finds the parishioners butchered and the septon hung up. He grabs an ax and pursues the men of the brotherhood.

Margaery is still refined to the High Sparrow and his order of fanatics. The High Sparrow urges her to beget an heir with Tommen and to bring her grandmother Olenna to the right faith. Loras should also repent for his deeds; he is only allowed to return to Rosengarten if he renounces his name and title as Tyrell heir. Margaery is allowed to meet her grandmother Olenna Tyrell, is converted to her and is supposed to persuade her to return to Rosengarten. She secretly slips her grandmother a note with a rose on it. Cersei wants to act with Olenna against the Tall Sparrow in order to free their children. Olenna knows about Margaery's plan to use the Tall Sparrow, refuses to help and wants to leave King's Landing.

To the north, Jon and Tormund persuade the Wildlings and the Giant to fight Ramsay Bolton for House Stark and for themselves. Jon, Sansa and Ser Davos go to Bear Island and meet the young Lady Lyanna Mormont. They persuade her to help against Ramsay Bolton, as a divided north cannot stand up to the coming undead and the Mormonts are traditionally strong loyalists. But you only get a few soldiers. Her request for support from Haus Glauer, however, is refused, as Lord Glauer cannot forgive the Starks for their inaction when the iron men overran the north, and he also wants nothing to do with wildlings. Jon has an army camp set up in the old camp of Stannis Baratheon in the direction of Winterfell. Sansa fears that they are short of men and secretly sends a message with a raven.

Jaime reaches Schnellwasser Castle, besieged by the Freys, with Bronn and his army, which Brynden Tully successfully holds. Bronn becomes Jaime's commandant with promises for a county, castle and high-born bride. The Freys try unsuccessfully to force Brynden to give up the castle by threatening to kill Edmure Tully. Jaime takes command of the rapid water siege and orders the digging of trenches and the construction of siege devices; he also orders Edmure to be treated better. Jaime has an interview with Brynden; he does not want to give up the castle, as he still has supplies for two years and a storm attack will be bloody for the Lannisters too.

In Essos, Asha and Theon Greyjoy pursue the plan to forestall their uncle Euron and support Daenerys Targaryen with their fast ships, so that they can ultimately conquer the Iron Islands with their help. In Braavos, Arya books a ship for the return journey to Westeros. On a bridge she is seriously injured by the homeless person in the form of an old woman with a stiletto and jumps into the water of the bay. The homeless believes she is successful, but Arya reappears and staggers through the streets bleeding.

58 8th Nobody No one June 12, 2016 June 13, 2016 Mark Mylod David Benioff & DB Weiss 7.60 million
Sandor Clegane pursues the renegade murderers from the "Brotherhood without Banners", who have since been caught by Beric Dondarrion and his people. He asks Sandor to join them, since bad things are approaching from the north. In the riverside lands, Jaime Lannister succeeds in using the captured Edmure Tully to conquer high-speed water by threatening to kill his child. The fortress falls because the Tully troops surrender at his command, but the black fish is killed. Jaime lets Brienne and Podrick go after the siege, after Brienne had previously tried unsuccessfully on Sansa's behalf to win the Tully army of black fish to recapture Winterfell.

In King's Landing King Tommen, who is now completely under the influence of the High Sparrow, announces that in future there will be no divine judgments through duels and that Cersei and Loras Tyrell will have to answer before a spiritual court. Cersei's hopes for a possible release seem to have evaporated, but her advisor Maester Qyburn has apparently found important information that can help her.

In Braavos, the injured Arya is cared for by the actress Lady Crane, but the homeless woman is still on her trail. Lady Crane is murdered, and it is only with difficulty that Arya can finally kill the homeless. Arya then confronts Jaqen H'ghar and tells him that she is no longer "nobody", but that she returns home from Winterfell as Arya Stark. In Meereen, Varys travels to Westeros on an expedition to find ships there and win allies. The city itself is now being attacked from the sea by a fleet of slaveholders from Astapor and Yunkai when Daenerys unexpectedly appears on the back of her dragon Drogon.

59 9 The battle of the bastards Battle of the Bastards 19th June 2016 20th June 2016 Miguel Sapochnik David Benioff & DB Weiss 7.66 million
Meereen is being catapulted from the sea by the great slave masters' warships, and it seems only a matter of time before the city falls. Daenerys and Tyrion negotiate with three of the slave masters. Daenerys mounts the dragon Drogon, who, together with the other two dragons, destroys the fleet in front of the city in fire. The sailors and soldiers jump from the ships in panic. Daario Naharis arrives with the Dothraki and kills the assassinating sons of the harpy outside the city. Gray worm kills two of the three grandmasters as an ordered retaliation, Tyrion leaves the third (Yezzan) alive on the condition that he return to his people and no more attacks, otherwise he would suffer the same fate. Theon and Asha Graufreud arrive a little later in Meereen and offer Daenerys their ships, but in return ask her for support in the battle for the salt throne of the Iron Islands. Asha vows to end the ironclad way of life of pillage, pillage, and rape. Daenerys has now united their armies and with the captured slave master fleet enough ships to land with them in Westeros.

In the north, Jon Schnee, Tormund Riesentod and Ser Davos discuss a battle plan to free Rickon from the hands of Ramsey Bolton, knowing that they are clearly inferior to his army as they lack the support of most of the houses in the north, while Ramsay is up can support the Umber and Karstark houses. Jon offers Ramsey a face-to-face fight, which Ramsey refuses. Sansa and Jon get into an argument over his improvised battle plan and their desire for more fighters. Sansa draws his attention to Ramsey's deviousness and malice. The next day both armies face each other. Ramsey releases Rickon and tells him to run quickly to meet his brother. Ramsey shoots arrows after him. Jon observes the situation and rides off to save his brother. He's late and watches as Rickon is hit in the heart by an arrow. It was a trap as Jon is now within range of Ramsay's archers and is being shot at. In a rage, he rides towards the Boltons, who are already sending out mounted men. At the last second, Jon's troops come to the rescue. A brutal battle ensues, which seems to go according to Ramsay's plan, which wanted to make Jon angry and careless. The Boltons, with Lord Jon "Kleinjon" Umber's troops at their head, encircle Jon's army. The situation seems lost when, unexpectedly, the Knights of the Green Valley of House Arryn and Sansa rush up with Petyr Baelish and destroy Bolton's troops. Meanwhile, Tormund manages to kill Lord Umber. Jon sees Ramsey flee with his captains and takes up the chase with Tormund and the giant Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun. Entrenched on Winterfell, Ramsey hopes Jon's army cannot hold out a siege. Moments later, the giant breaks through the gate and is finally fatally hit by Ramsey's arrow. Jon defeats Ramsey in a long-awaited duel, knocks him unconscious and lets him down so Sansa can settle accounts with him. The Battle of Winterfell is over, Ramsey is tied to a chair in the castle's dog kennel. Sansa has one final conversation with Ramsey, who makes hints that "he is part of her"; she denies this and gives him to understand that the name Bolton and any memory of him and the suffering caused her will soon be forgotten. Eventually he is mauled by his own dogs, which he had not fed for his enemies in seven days.

60 10 The winds of winter The Winds of Winter June 26, 2016 June 27, 2016 Miguel Sapochnik David Benioff & DB Weiss 8.89 million
In King's Landing the public trial of Margaery, Loras and Cersei begins in the Great Septe. Loras pleads guilty, swears not to marry and not to father children, gives up his name and title and thus the claim to rose garden. He subscribes to the militant order of the High Sparrow and vows to persecute heretics in the future. It is then drawn with the seven-pointed star on the forehead with a knife. When Tommen wants to go to see the trial, he is held by Gregor Clegane on Cersei's behalf. Cersei stays away from the trial and remains in the Red Keep. Since she stays away, the High Sparrow has the friar Lancel Lannister sent after her. When leaving the Great Septe, he sees a conspicuously behaving boy, a "little bird" spy Qyburn, and pursues him into the catacombs. Meanwhile Grand Maester Pycelle is lured into an ambush by Qyburn and stabbed to death by the "little birds". Lancel is also attacked in the catacombs by the boy with a knife and lies injured on the ground. The boy lets go of him and disappears. Lancel discovers what the boy was messing with: a huge sea fire camp that was once built underground by Aerys II Targaryen, the “Mad King”. Margaery becomes suspicious that Tommen and Cersei are still staying away from the trial, and urges the High Sparrows and the audience that the sept must be cleared. But the now panicked accused and spectators are held by the friars.
Meanwhile, Lancel tries in vain to extinguish the candles that are supposed to light the lake fire. The ignited sea fire under the sept causes a violent explosion and conflagration that destroys the sept and kills everyone inside. In addition to the high sparrow, Margaery and Loras, these include Lord Maes Tyrell and the hand of the king, Kevan Lannister. Adjacent parts of the city and residents will also be affected. Cersei watches from the Red Keep, her plan worked. She has captured the nun, Unella the High Sparrow, and takes revenge on her for the torture and punishments that Unella inflicted on her during her detention. She promises her long suffering and leaves it to Gregor Clegane. Tommen sees what has happened from the palace window and kills himself with one jump out of the window. Cersei orders his body to be cremated and his ashes to be buried in the former Septe Square.

In the twin towers, the Freys and Lannisters celebrate the victory over the Tullys in Schnellwasser with a party, in which Jaime and Bronn take part. Meanwhile Samwell reaches the Citadel, the seat of the Order of Maesters, with Goldy and little Sam, where he begins his training. He is allowed to use the comprehensive library.

In Winterfell, Ser Davos confronts Lady Melisandre that she burned Stannis Baratheon's daughter Sharin, who Davos liked, at the stake near Stannis' camp. She defends herself by thinking that the Lord of Light would make this sacrifice in order to be victorious against the Boltons. Davos asks Jon Snow's permission to indict her. Her life is not important to her, but she thinks that her God still needs her against the White Walkers. Jon allows her to ride south, but if she turns up again in the north, he'll hang her for murder. Ser Davos promises to kill her personally if he ever sees her again. Jon then asks Sansa about Petyr Baelish's arrival and the Knights of the Green Valley, which she withheld from him. She tells him that no one can trust Little Finger and promises to be honest from now on. Meanwhile a white raven came from the citadel with the news that winter has come. Sansa then secretly meets Petyr Baelish. He wants the Iron Throne with her at his side. He tells her that word of the victorious battle for Winterfell will quickly get around in the Seven Kingdoms and that, as head of the House of Arryn, he is publicly an ally of the Starks. He also tries to sow discord with Jon in Sansa, since she is entitled to the leadership role of the house of Stark.

In Dorne, Lady Olenna Tyrell was invited by Ellaria Sand and the Sand Snakes of the Martells to forge an alliance against the Lannisters. Olenna seeks revenge, and Ellaria promises her that. Varys appears there as the envoy from Daenerys Targaryen and greets her with the House Targaryen motto: "Fire and Blood".

In Meereen, Daenerys' fleet is about to leave. Daario Naharis is supposed to keep the peace with the second born in Meereen and the Bay of Slaves, which has been renamed Dragon Bay, while the inhabitants choose their own governors from their ranks. On Tyrion's advice, she has to leave him behind as a lover, as she has to keep a political wedding open for calculation. Tyrion is officially appointed Queen's hand by Daenerys.

In the north, Benjen Stark brings his nephews Bran and Meera Reet to a weirwood tree and, as the resurrected dead person, can no longer accompany them from the magical barrier of the great wall. He goes back to fighting the White Walkers and the undead. Connected to the weirwood tree, Bran sees the final scene from the Tower of Joy in a vision, in which his father Ned finds his sister Lyanna bleeding in bed. She is dying and gives him her newborn child, whose father was apparently Rhaegar Targaryen. He promises to raise it and protect it. It's Jon that Ned poses as his bastard for his protection.

In Winterfell there is tension among the allied troops and houses as the Knights of the Green Valley do not want to fight with Wildlings. Others want to return home with the Boltons wiped out and the start of winter, which the maesters estimate will be the worst in 1,000 years. The young Lyanna Mormont brings the quarreling to their senses by reminding the houses of the north of their oath to House Stark. They decide to continue to stand together against the coming evil beyond the wall. Though Jon is viewed as Ned Stark's illegitimate bastard, they proclaim him the new King of the North.

When Jaime and Bronn reach Königsmund with the Lannister army, they see the destruction. In the palace, Jaime watches with alarm as Qyburn crowns Cersei queen. She appointed Qyburn for his service and loyalty to her hand of the queen. Daenerys meanwhile crosses the sea to Westeros with her huge fleet, supported by Martell and Tyrell ships, a large army and their dragons.

Arya Stark takes part in the party in the twin towers in the form of a Frey maid. Towards the end, when all the guests are gone, she kills Walder Frey's sons, chops them up and gives them to him secretly baked in a pie to eat. She then reveals herself and slits Walder's throat in revenge for the Red Wedding, in which her mother Catelyn, her brother Robb, his wife Talisa and their unborn child were maliciously murdered.

  • At 67 minutes, the 10th episode is the longest episode of the first six seasons.
  • The tenth episode is the first episode in which a new ruler is crowned in different places at the same time.
  • With Balon Greyjoy and Tommen Baratheon, two kings died in season six. Previously, two kings died in season one (Viserys Targaryen and Robert Baratheon) and season five (Manke Rayder and Stannis Baratheon), while in seasons two (Renly Baratheon), three (Robb Stark) and four (Joffrey Baratheon) a ruler was always killed .
  • Tommen Baratheon is the first king to die by suicide (except - in the context of the background story - King Baelor I. Targaryen, "the blessed one", who probably fasted himself to death out of piety, unless his uncle and heir to the throne Viserys II Targaryen poisoned).
  • At the end of the 10th episode, Cersei is the first sole ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, with the exception of the north, which Jon rules.
