DB Weiss
DB Weiss (* 23. April 1971 in Chicago , Illinois as Daniel Brett Weiss ) is an American book and screenwriter . His debut novel Lucky Wander Boy (2003) is thematically about video games. Since then it has been associated with adaptations of various science fiction and fantasy stories .
Life
Weiss was born in Chicago and grew up there. He went to Wesleyan University and received a Masters of Philosophy in Irish Literature from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers' Workshop .
Weiss wrote a second novel, which, however, claims to have to be revised again.
He was commissioned to write the screenplay for the film adaptation of Bungie's video game series Halo , based on the $ 1 million script by Alex Garland . The rewrite was planned for 2006 and a release of the film in 2008. Weiss also wrote a script for Orson Scott Card's book The Big Game .
Weiss worked until 2019 with David Benioff , the screenwriter of Troy (2004), on the HBO - television adaptation of George RR Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire . Due to the success of the series, Weiss and Benioff were commissioned by Disney to work on the scripts of several films in the Star Wars universe after the end of Game of Thrones and also to produce them. A release date was not known for the time being. At the end of October 2019, the withdrawal of the two from the plan of a new Star Wars trilogy was announced. A first part was planned for 2022. The reason given was a lack of time from working on other projects.
Weiss was also commissioned to write the script for a prequel film for I Am Legend (2007), as well as a remake of Sie Leben (1988) by director John Carpenter .
