The second season follows the end of the first season. In King's Landing the new King Joffrey wields a reign of terror and continues to hold Sansa Stark hostage. He lets knights compete against each other. When Ser Dontos appears drunk, he initially wants to have him killed, but is ultimately content with calling him a fool.

Tyrion Lannister reaches the capital with Bronn and his tribal warriors and takes his position as representative of his father Tywin, the hand of the king. Tyrion thus effectively takes over government affairs in the Privy Council, which Cersei, Joffrey's mother and regent, has to accept. The long summer was officially declared over by the maesters of the citadel. Most of Robert's bastard sons are killed by the city guard. From the blacksmith who Gendry - another bastard - worked for, they learn that he has joined the Night's Watch and is on his way north. Cersei assigns Petyr Baelish to find Arya in order to win her back as a hostage.

In the meantime, Robb Stark, the first king of the north after almost 300 years, has consolidated his power in the river lands. He is holding Jaime Lannister hostage in his army camp. Robb offers the Lannisters peace if they release his captive sisters (nobody suspects Arya's escape), transfer the bones of his father and his men and give up all claims to the now independent kingdom of the north. With this offer he sends one of the captured Lannisters to the capital. Tyrion managed to smuggle the prostitute Shae into his quarters, even though his father had expressly forbidden it. Theon Greyjoy wants his father to be an ally for Robb. However, Catelyn is skeptical about the Gray Joy's trustworthiness. Robb sends his mother to Renley Baratheon to negotiate with him because the two have known each other from their youth.

Bran holds court at Winterfell, supported by Maester Luwin, and has dreams again of being a wolf.

On the island of Drachenstein, Stannis Baratheon, advised by the mysterious Melisandre of Asshai, is preparing to assert his claim to the Iron Throne. He converts Melisandre's belief in the god of fire and lets it be publicly announced that the father of Cersei's children is Jaime. However, a large part of his troops have chosen Stannis' younger brother Renly, who calls himself king and is supported by the Tyrells.

In the far north, the Night Watch goes on an expedition to the area north of the wall and reaches the house of the wildling Craster. He lives alone with his daughters whom he marries and has new offspring with them. What happened to his sons is unclear. Craster informs Commandant Mormont that many wildlings are moving north to join Manke Rayder, the "King Beyond the Wall". According to Craster, he wants to march to the wall with his army.

On the continent of Essos, Daenerys Targaryen, who now takes care of three tiny dragons, crosses a large desert with only a few followers in order to reach a safe place.

12 2 The countries of the night The Night Lands Apr 8, 2012 May 31, 2012 Alan Taylor David Benioff & DB Weiss 3.76 million
Arya Stark is with a group of recruits for the Night Watch on the Koenigsstrasse northbound while the City Watch searches for Gendry. She poses as a boy named Arry; only Gendry reveals her true identity. The group also includes three prisoners, two rude brawlers and Jaqen H'ghar, who only talks about himself and others in the third person. So he asks “a boy” (Arry / Arya) to give water to “a man” (him).

Robb Stark's demands on the Crown are transmitted. Cersei tears up the letter; but at the urging of Tyrion, the bones of Ned Stark are sent as a token of their good will. At the same time, the night watch in Königsmund asks for support - which Cersei also refuses. Commander Mormont reports about the attack of the undead, which Cersei dismisses as a fairy tale, while Tyrion, who knows Mormont personally, believes him. Reports on Manke Rayder and his wildling army have also reached the council. Tyrion confronts Cersei with rumors that she ordered the deaths of Robert's bastards. It is becoming less popular with the people, and uprisings are threatened. She doesn't care about the people. Cersei accuses Tyrion of being responsible for the death of their mother, as she died in his birth.

Varys speaks to Shae and learns that Tyrion wants to keep Shae's presence a secret from his father. Varys implies that he now has leverage, but Tyrion replies that he is not intimidated by hidden threats.

During the festive supper, Janos Slynt, who followed Robert King Joffrey's orders in the murder of the bastards, is released by Tyrion and assigned to the night watch. Slynt betrayed the king's last hand and killed innocent children (the bastard children of Roberts), which is why Tyrion does not trust him. Bronn becomes the new commander.

Theon Graufreud returns to Peik after nine years as a ward of the Starks. There he meets his sister Asha (also "Asha" in the books, but "Yara" in the original English TV version) and makes his father Balon Graufreud an offer from Robb Stark; Balon refuses this and has his own plans.

Stannis Baratheon's right-hand man Davos, the onion knight, persuades the pirate Salladhor Saan, who is known to him, to join Stannis against Joffrey and take 30 ships. Melisandre also moves Stannis to trust her God completely and to father an illegitimate son with her.

In Essos, Daenerys Targaryen is still in the desert. She receives a warning message from a khal who sends back the decapitated body of one of her blood riders.

Beyond the wall, the night watch men have found shelter at Craster. Sam becomes friends with Craster's daughter Goldy (who is called Giddy in the English version of the episode). She is pregnant and would like to accompany the night watch because she is afraid for her child if it turns out to be a boy. Why exactly remains unclear, even when Jon asked. At night, Jon makes an eerie discovery in front of Craster's barracks: Craster abandons his son in the forest, who is brought by an unrecognizable figure. Craster spots Jon and knocks him out.

In King's Landing, Tyrion Lannister ensures that his lover Shae is safe and now works as a maid for Sansa Stark, who is being held hostage at court. Tyrion consolidates his position at court. He plays the members of the Privy Council (Varys, Petyr Baelish and Pycelle) against each other: he explains to Pycelle that he wants to marry Princess Myrcella to the Prince of Dorne; He tells Petyr Baelish that he wants to marry Myrcella to Robin Arryn von Hohenehr, the son of Lysa Arryn, and he explains to Varys that he wants to marry her to Theon Greyjoy. He emphatically assures each of the three that Cersei must not find out about these plans. When she later accuses him of wanting to send Myrcella to Dorne, it is clear that Pycelle has spoken. Tyrion has Bronn trim his beard and throw him into the dungeon. Furthermore, Tyrion actually arranges a marriage of Princess Myrcella with a member of House Martell, which rules Dorne in the south and is rather hostile to the Lannisters. Petyr Baelish complains about Tyrion's deception and is tasked with negotiating an exchange of hostages with Catelyn Stark.

In Winterfell, Bran Stark has strange dreams again, in which he is a wolf and which no one can explain to him. Bran mentions ancient stories of people who could control the minds of animals, which Maester Luwin believes are only stories, as well as the accounts of dragons, giants and the children of the forest.

In the meantime, Catelyn Stark, Robb's envoy, arrives at King Renly Baratheon's camp, who has gathered 100,000 men from the Reach and the Stormlands outside King's Landing. She is received in a friendly, but rather cool way, and meets Brienne von Tarth, who serves in Renly's royal guard and was even able to defeat Loras Tyrell in battle. Renly's homosexuality is recognized by his new wife, Margaery Tyrell, Loras' sister. She expresses understanding, but urges him to father an heir so that his position as king is consolidated.

On the Königsstrasse, Arya Stark and the recruits of the Night Watch are ambushed by Lannister soldiers. Yoren is killed and the survivors are captured. Polliver, one of the soldiers, kills a wounded boy with the sword he took from Arya. When the Lannister commander asked who Gendry was among the prisoners, Arya points to the boy who was killed while Gendry stands next to her. Since the dead man carries Gendry's distinctive bull's head helmet, the Lannisters believe the lie.

On the Iron Islands, Balon Graufreud reveals his plan to use the battles for the throne to invade the north, where there are hardly any troops left. Theon is at odds between his family and his loyalty to Robb Stark. Ultimately, he decides to serve his father and is given a ship to raid fishing villages, while his sister Asha is given command of 30 ships to conquer the coast to the north. Theon is baptized in the name of the drowned God worshiped in the Iron Islands.

In the land beyond the wall, Jon reports to the Lord Commander Mormont that Craster is sacrificing the newborn boys in the forest, which Mormont was aware of. Jon is instructed by him to leave Craster alone because they need his help. Sam continues to befriend Goldy and hands her a thimble from his mother, the only thing that Sam has left of his mother.

Robb Stark defeated another small group of the Lannisters. Lord Roose Bolton recommends torturing prisoners for information, but Robb strictly refuses. On the battlefield, he meets a young woman named Talisa who cares for the wounded on both sides and blames him for the atrocities there.

In King's Landing Joffrey is furious when he learns of Robb's victories. He has Sansa Stark beat publicly, which ends Tyrion Lannister. Cersei sends Lancel to Tyrion and demands that Pycelles be released. Tyrion, however, lets Lancel Lannister know that he knows about his affair with Cersei; Lancel is supposed to spy on them for him, otherwise he will share his knowledge with Joffrey, who would have Lancel executed for it. Pycelle is released but is no longer allowed to appear on the council.

In the Stormlands, Petyr Baelish meets Renly Baratheon and pretends to be his ally at court. There he meets his childhood sweetheart Catelyn, to whom he shows that the Lannisters still have both Stark girls as hostages and would exchange them for Jaime. He leaves her the remains of Eddard.

Arya Stark, Gendry and the other surviving recruits are brought to Harrenhal, where Ser Gregor Clegane systematically tortures prisoners and has them questioned about the "brotherhood". Before going to sleep, Arya mumbles the names of the people she still wants to kill: Polliver, who stole her sword and killed her traveling companion; King Joffrey, who had her father executed; Cersei; Sandor Clegane, the bloodhound who chased the butcher boy to death, and Illyn Pain, the hangman who killed her father. Tywin Lannister finally arrives there too, ends the torture and makes Arya his maid while Gendry works as a blacksmith.

Stannis and Renly meet. Renly refuses to submit to his older brother as he has more troops than Stannis.

In Essos, Daenerys reaches the great trading city of Qarth, which is located in the desert, where one is eager to see its dragons. When Daenerys refuses and wants to enter the city, she is initially denied access and threatens to starve her and her people in the "Garden of Bones" - as the area in front of Quarth is called because of the bones of those who died there. However, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, one of the leading men in the city, campaigns successfully for them.

During the night, Davos brings Melisandre, who is apparently pregnant, near Renly. She suddenly goes into labor, but instead of a child, a demon is born that appears to be made of smoke.

Renly Baratheon is killed by Melisandre's shadow demon in his tent when only Catelyn and Brienne are present. Both flee from the camp together as they are believed to be the attackers. Brienne swears allegiance to Catelyn. She is sure that the demon was in the form of Stannis and wants to avenge Renly. Both set off to Robb's army camp.

The Tyrells flee on the advice of Baelish, while most of Renly's army now joins Stannis. Ser Davos fails when he tries to approach Stannis about Melisandre's act; Stannis doesn't want to talk about it. However, he agrees not to take Melisandre with him in the attack on the capital as it would count as their victory, not his, according to Davos. Stannis also appoints Davos as commander-in-chief of his entire fleet.

Defense preparations are being made at King's Landing, as it is only a matter of time before the Baratheon army arrives under Stannis. He has more ships, infantry, and horses than the defenders. Cersei mentions that Joffrey is planning to defend the city but doesn't want to give any details. Tyrion learns from Lancel that Cersei wants to use sea fire, a kind of Greek fire , for defense , which is to be thrown at the ships by means of catapults. Tyrion visits the pyromancers who make it and orders them to no longer make sea fire for Cersei, but for him. In the capital, there is also growing unrest among the population, especially since Joffrey is apparently very unpopular. He and his family are accused of incest and corruption, among other things.

Theon plans his action against the Starks in the north. He wants to attack Torrhenschanze, a castle deep inland that can be reached by water, and conquer it in the hope that troops will be withdrawn from Winterfell as relief. Reports of attackers invading the northern kingdom soon reached Winterfell. Bran actually sends 200 reinforcements, leaving Winterfell completely defenseless. Bran later has a dream in which the sea reaches Winterfell, floods, and kills many residents.

In Harrenhal, Tywin Lannister is frustrated with the development of the war against Robb Stark. Gendry works as a blacksmith for the Lannisters. Jaqen H'ghar has also joined the Lannisters. But he explains to Arya that he owes her debt and that he would commit three murders for her. She accepts and is the first to name the “clitoris”, the torturer. Shortly afterwards, he falls from a high wall and dies.

The night watch has now penetrated into completely snow-covered areas, in which there is also the "fist of the first people", the place where the first people are said to have entered Westeros thousands of years ago. In the land north of the wall, the men learn that the "King beyond the wall", Manke Rayder, has now gathered all the wildlings. The experienced border guard Qhorin, called Half-Hand, wants to sneak up on a small group of scouts and kill them without the main camp of the wildlings being notified. Jon joins him.

In Essos, Daenerys enjoys the convenience of the city of Qarth. She remains determined to regain the Iron Throne, and the time seems right to do so. A town councilor and alleged magician introduces himself to Daenerys and invites her to visit him at the "House of Immortals". A masked woman who apparently knows Jorah Mormont very well warns him that Daenerys is in danger. He should take good care of her. Xaro Xhoan Daxos makes Daenerys an interesting offer: she should marry him and he will provide her with the necessary funds for the reconquest of Westeros. She learns from him that Robert Baratheon has died, which would be the right time. Jorah Mormont advises against marriage, explains to her that he thinks she is the ideal ruler and advises to get a ship to sail to Westeros.

Theon Greyjoy succeeds in conquering Winterfell and taking Bran and Rickon hostage. He forces Bran to proclaim him Lord of Winterfell and kills Ser Rodrik Cassel. He also has messages sent to his father on Pyke and his sister in Tiefwald Motte to defend Winterfell. However, Maester Luwin still manages to send a raven with the news of the attack. Osha sleeps with "Prince" Theon, as he calls himself, and receives her freedom in return. She finally manages to escape from the fortress with Bran, Rickon, Hodor and the two wolves.

Robb Stark develops feelings for Talisa, but Catelyn, who has arrived at the army camp with Brienne, reminds him of his promise to marry a Frey. When news of Winterfell's fall reaches him, he is furious over Theon's betrayal. Roose Bolton sends his bastard son to take back Winterfell while Robb continues to attack the Lannisters with the main force.

In King's Landing Myrcella is brought on a ship to Dorne, where she is to be married. Saying goodbye to her beloved daughter is very difficult for Cersei. From their point of view, Tyrion has taken her Myrcella away. Cersei therefore threatens Tyrion that one day he will also lose a loved one. Joffrey is becoming increasingly unpopular, and riots break out as the people go hungry. When Joffrey is pelted with dung, he wants to have the crowd executed, but has to flee from the angry mob. Sandor Clegane can save Sansa from rape at the last minute. The conflict between Joffrey and Tyrion continues to come to a head.

In Harrenhal, Petyr Baelish visits Tywin Lannister to discuss how to proceed. Baelish suggests that they get the Tyrells on their side. With Loras Tyrell seeking revenge on Stannis for Renly's death, they have a common enemy. Arya reads a letter Tywin has not yet dispatched to the Lannister forces, suggesting that Tywin and his troops will support them against Robb. Arya is caught by a soldier; Arya therefore asks Jaqen to kill this man as her second wish. This can carry out his mission immediately before the soldier can report to Tywin.

In the land beyond the wall, Qhorin's men kill a small group of wildlings, Jon is supposed to kill a young wildling woman named Ygritte, but cannot bring himself to do so. When she escapes, Jon catches her again. However, he cannot find his group again, so that both of them have to spend the night in the wilderness.

In Qarth Daenerys does not manage to get ships for the crossing to Westeros. She then finds several of her people dead, and the dragons have been stolen.

In King's Landing, Sansa Stark is still trying desperately to maintain her composure. Her menstruation is starting and she fears that she will soon have to share bed with Joffrey. Cersei has a conversation with Sansa and explains to her that the more people you love, the weaker you get. Sansa should come to terms with her fate. Tyrion and Cersei discuss the impending attack by Stannis, and Cersei admits that he is disappointed with Joffrey.

Robb Stark receives word from Ser Alton, a Lannister, that Cersei has refused his terms. Since all pens are occupied, Alton is housed in Jaime's pen and guarded by Lord Karstark's son. Robb takes Talisa to negotiations at a nearby castle so that she can get new drugs there. Meanwhile, in the Stark camp, the prisoner Jaime is having a conversation with his cousin Alton. Jaime kills him and Karstark's son and tries to escape, but doesn't get far. Karstark wants to kill him, but Catelyn stops him. When the mood in the army deteriorates and a mob is expected to form soon and kill Jaime, she confronts him.

In Harrenhal, Tywin believes that the assassination attempt on Ser Lorch was aimed at him and was carried out by the nameless brotherhood. Since the farmers do not want to reveal where they are hiding, Tywin instructs the mountain to burn down their villages. He also realizes that his servant Arya, whose true identity he does not know, is more than she appears to be.

In Winterfell, Theon is furious when he notices that Brans and Rickons have escaped. He rushes after them with dogs, but loses the trail. Bran, Rickon, Osha and Hodor hide on the farm, to which Bran previously sent two orphans to support the farmer. When Theon returns to Winterfell, which he wants to keep at all costs, he publicly shows the charred corpses of two children Maester Luwin believes to be Bran and Rickon.

In the land beyond the wall, Jon Schnee is still on his own with the captured Ygritte. Ygritte tries to seduce him and mentions some details about the "free people", as the wildlings call themselves, as they choose their leaders and these are not determined by birthright. Jon and Ygritte have common ancestors with the "first humans" who first set foot in Westeros thousands of years ago. She escapes and leads Jon into an ambush by the wildlings.

In Qarth, Daenerys is angry at the loss of her dragons. One of her servants was murdered, another is missing. She orders Ser Jorah to find her dragons. Jorah seeks out the masked woman who knows where the dragons are. Only when Jorah promises never to betray Daenerys again (he was spying for Varys) does she explain that the thief is with her. The warlock Pyat Pree admits to owning the dragons and to have allied himself with the "King of Qarth", although such a king did not exist before. Daenerys is revealed that this king is Xaro Xhoan Daxos, who has had plans of his own all along. They kill the remaining 11 council members from Qarth and want to capture Daenerys. Jorah can intervene in time.

In Winterfell, Theon killed all the ravens to prevent messages from reaching his enemies. Asha Graufreud reaches her brother Theon, but without bringing him the hoped-for reinforcement. Asha explains to Theon that Winterfell cannot be kept that far inland and that the cruel murder of Brans and Rickons was stupid. In reality, both children are still alive and are hiding in the Winterfell Crypt with Hodor and Osha. Maester Luwin discovers them.

Robb Stark hires Lord Roose Bolton to recapture Winterfell. At the same time, Robb and Talisa get closer and spend a night together. However, Catelyn has released Jaime Lannister, who is led towards King's Landing by Brienne von Tarth. Catelyn hopes that her daughters will be released, although she has no idea that Arya has escaped and gone into hiding in Harrenhal. Robb, however, makes serious accusations against his mother that they no longer have a trump card against the Lannisters and sends soldiers to arrest Jaime again. They received no new messages from Winterfell. Robb lets the occupiers know that each of them will be safe if he surrenders - with the exception of Theon.

In Harrenhal, Tywin Lannister decides to go into the field - according to his soldiers against Robb. The mountain is supposed to hold Harrenhal with a small troop and track down the brotherhood. Arya asks Jaqen to kill Tywin, but he makes it clear that he cannot do this in time and urges her to give him another name so that he can settle his debt. Arya now gives his name, but agrees at Jaqen's request that he help her escape. She leaves Harrenhal at midnight with Gendry and the boy "Hot Pate". The guards were all killed.

In King's Landing they are preparing for the imminent attack by Stannis. Tyrion has got armor for Joffrey so that he can defend his troops to raise morale. Cersei is afraid for her son and believes Tyrion is deliberately putting him in danger because he doesn't like him. She takes Tyrion's "little whore" prisoner and has her mistreated in revenge for Tyrion sending Myrcella to Dorne. Anything that happens to Joffrey will happen to her too. If he dies in defense, so will she. When Tyrion wants to see her, however, Cersei shows the prostitute Ros instead of Shae. Tyrion answers with two sentences that Cersei will remember often: “I will make you suffer for this. The day will come when you will feel happy and safe, but your happiness will crumble like ashes before your eyes. ”Then he rushes to Shae, who confesses her love to him.

Stannis is on a ship in his fleet, which is only a day away from King's Landing. When he almost starved to death during the siege of Storm Cape, which he was supposed to keep in the war against the mad king, the smuggler Davos saved him, who smuggled a shipload of onions into the fortress. As a thank you, he promises the current knight Davos, the "onion knight", to appoint him to his hand when Stannis sits on the iron throne.

In the land beyond the wall, Jon Snow is a prisoner of the wildlings, as is Qhorin now. He wants to smuggle in a man from the Night's Watch with the Wildlings as an agent in order to fight them from within, and starts a fight with Jon.

In Qarth, Daenerys wants to get her dragons back. However, Jorah has identified a ship that is due to leave for Astapor the next day.

The entire episode takes place in King's Landing, shortly before, during and shortly after the decisive battle on the Schwarzwasser River and the subsequent attack on the capital. The city has prepared as well as possible for the attack by Stannis Baratheon, but the latter has superior powers. Cersei is willing to kill herself and her children, as well as Sansa, rather than let them fall into the hands of the victor, as Stannis would presumably burn them. From Pycelle she gets nightshade essence, a powerful sleep aid that can also be used as a poison. Varys is concerned about the new religion of Stannis and therefore hopes for his defeat. Tyrion Lannister refuses to flee in an emergency. Varys gives him a map with the city's secret tunnels.

The Baratheon fleet suffers heavy losses when it is set ablaze with sea fire. Davos' son dies in the fire. Nevertheless, Stannis manages to put troops ashore. He climbs the first wall with a ladder. The bloodhound leads the counterattack through the gate, in which Lancel Lannister is hit in the shoulder by an arrow and retreats to Cersei. It is in the Red Keep with the noble ladies and their servants. When Lancel tells her that Stannis is standing at the gates with a superior army, she sends him to get Joffrey. There are numerous fires in front of the gates, on the one hand because of the sea fire, on the other hand because of the arrows used by the defenders. When an already burning man storms the bloodhound and sinks to the ground directly in front of him, fatally hit, he leaves the battlefield because he has been afraid of fire since his youth. (His big brother, the mountain, had pressed his face on glowing coals and thus disfigured it horribly). The defenders withdraw behind the gates and block them, whereupon Stannis uses a battering ram.

Joffrey eventually flees with Lancel to his mother, which weakens the morale of the Lannister troops. Sansa goes to her own quarters because she has less to fear from Stannis than from Cersei. There she finds the bloodhound. He wants to "go somewhere where there is no fire" and offers Sansa to escort her to Winterfell. However, this refuses, and the bloodhound leaves her.

Tyrion excels in the subsequent defense of the capital and leads the counterattack through one of the secret tunnels to attack the opponents from behind. However, he is seriously wounded by an assassination attempt by a member of the Royal Guard. When the guardsman strikes a fatal blow, he is stabbed by Podrick. The Lannisters appear to be losing, as more waves of attack appear when relief forces from the Lannisters and Tyrells, who have now joined them, suddenly arrive under Tywin's command. Stannis suffers a crushing defeat, but is forced to flee by his own soldiers.

The victory over Stannis is celebrated in King's Landing. Tywin Lannister can be staged as the savior of the city, rides in full armor into the throne room and is appointed by Joffrey as the new hand in front of the Tyrells and Lannisters. Joffrey thanks Petyr Baelish for having won the Tyrells as an ally, Harrenhall and the associated lands and titles. The engagement to Sansa is broken, instead Joffrey now wants to marry Margaery. Baelish offers to take her home to Sansa, but she refuses.

Lord Varys explains to Tyrion that the attack was carried out on Cersei's orders during the battle and that Tyrion's role in successfully defending the capital is likely to be covered up. Tyrion nevertheless decides to stay at court. Bronn was released as captain of the city guard, the men of the hill tribes who fought for Tyrion were rewarded by Tywin and sent home. Varys offers Ros, the prostitute who works for Baelish, to work for him instead.

Jaime and Brienne are still on their way south. When three soldiers of the Starks recognize Jaime, Brienne kills her to be able to escort him safely to King's Landing, as she promised Catelyn. Robb and Talisa marry, but Robb has broken his oath to the Frey house.

Arya, Gendry and “Hot Pie” are on the run; Jaqen H'ghar reveals to Arya that he is one of the "faceless men" of Braavos and offers to train her there. Since she refuses, he gives her a special coin and a password and says goodbye to her after he has changed face.

In Winterfell, Theon is besieged by Bolton troops. Theon tries to face a final desperate fight, but his men betray him and seriously wound Maester Luwin. When Bran, Rickon, Osha and Hodor come out of the crypt, they discover that Winterfell has burned down and is in ruins. The dying maester Luwin advises them to go to the wall, since there is Bran's brother Jon, where he is safer than with Robb in the war.

Stannis Baratheon has returned to Drachenstein and is angry with Melisandre, who did not see defeat coming. However, Melisandre explains to him that the war is far from over.

In the land beyond the wall, Jon appears to join the Wildlings, but he has to kill Qhorin in order to be convincing. Meanwhile, the men of the Night Watch are attacked in their camp by the "white walkers" and the undead.

In Qarth, Daenerys goes to the House of Immortals. The magician shows her various illusions: the destroyed, snow-covered throne room in King's Landing, the wall and Drogo with her child who lives in this vision. She finally gets her dragons back and takes revenge on the witcher Pyat Pree, whom she lets her dragons burn. She then penetrates the house of Xaro Xhoan Daxos and has him locked up in the empty treasure chamber together with her traitorous servant Doreah. Daenerys, Jorah, and the Dothraki take the gold wine cups, statues, and other valuables out of town to pay for ships.

Examples of differences from the book

The north does not forget (2.01)

  • There is no direct conversation between Robb Stark and Jaime Lannister in the book. In the book, Jaime is also a prisoner in Schnellwasser ("Riverrun" in the original).
  • Alton Lannister is a new character and replaces Cleos Frey from the book.
  • Petyr Baelish never directly confronted the incest allegations in the book of Cersei.

The Nightlands (2.02)

  • Theon's sister's name is Asha in the books and Yara in the series in the original to avoid confusion with Osha (again Asha in the German dubbing).
  • A sexual relationship between Melisandre and Stannis Baratheon is not explicitly mentioned in the books.

What is dead can never die (2.03)

  • Renly's homosexuality is openly shown in the series. The fact that Margaery knew about it is never explicitly mentioned in the book.
  • In the book, Margaery is described as reserved. Only in the third original English volume does it become clear that she has political instinct.
