Gameloft is the world's largest developer and publisher of video games for mobile devices and PC. The games were initially primarily for mobile phones designed, but Gameloft now developed mainly for Apple iOS , Android and Windows 8 / 10 . The head office is in France , and there are now branches all over the world.
The company was part of the CAC Small index and is now a subsidiary of Vivendi .
history
The company was founded by Michel Guillemot in 1999 and has been in the black since 2003. In the fourth quarter of 2007, Gameloft officially overtook its competitors in the young market with a turnover of 26 million euros, and thus rose to become the world market leader. The company develops games for mobile devices that are equipped with either Java , BREW or Symbian OS technology. The total number of mobile devices equipped with one of these technologies is estimated to be around 5 billion by 2012. Many Gameloft games are also available for Apple's iPhone / iPod touch / iPad , Android , Blackberry 10 , Windows Phone , WebOS , Nintendo WiiWare and DSi , Microsoft's XBOX Live Arcade and Sony's PSN and PSP Store .
At the end of 2007, 4,000 people were working for Gameloft, 50% more than at the end of the previous year 2006. Sales increased from 68.4 million euros (2006) to 96.1 million euros (2007), which represents an increase in sales of 40%. Gameloft's product range currently includes around 200 mobile games for over 1200 different mobile devices, which are sold in over 80 countries by more than 180 partners. Gameloft has announced for 2008. In addition, the first games on the 15 iPhone from Apple to publish.
In 2008, Gameloft achieved consolidated sales of EUR 110.3 million - an increase of 15% over the previous year. Mobile games accounted for 93% of the results achieved, video games for the remaining 7% in 2008. The European market accounted for 43% of sales, North America for 30% and 27% for the remaining countries.
In the 2011 financial year, Gameloft achieved sales of 164.4 million euros, which is an increase of 17% compared to the previous year (141 million). At the time, Gameloft had 35 million active users and Gameloft games for iOS and Android had been downloaded 125 million times. Also in 2011, Gameloft licensed Unreal Engine 3 in order to use it on iOS and Android. The first project called "March of Heroes" was given up in September of the same year.
In June 2016 Vivendi announced that it had taken over the majority of the company despite being rejected by Gameloft management.

Gameloft LIVE!
After a while, Gameloft developed a system called Gameloft LIVE! , on which you can play games that Gameloft Live has against each other online. This is done via WiFi or 3G . Registration is required.
Freemium
Since 2011, Gameloft has been publishing games with the freemium business model, which has been criticized by some players, among other things . In addition to new developments, game series with previously paid games were also set in this scheme. On March 20, 2012, Gameloft announced that it would only publish games with freemium and paymium business models in the future.
criticism
Gameloft is often criticized for copying well-known video games, such as Gangstar Vegas ( Grand Theft Auto ), Nova ( Halo ), Asphalt ( Need for Speed ) or Modern Combat ( Call of Duty ). Gameloft protested against this by pointing out that the games industry only had a limited number of innovations available.
