The Gamserrugg (emphasis on -rugg) or Gamser Rugg is a mountain in Toggenburg in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen . Its name refers to the chamois that used to live there.
location
Like the Churfirsten to the west, the ridge rises evenly from north to south. The Gamsalp is about halfway up . The neighboring, rugged mountains of the Alvier range in the east are separated from the Gamserrugg by a notch, the Nideri .
Development
The mountain station of a chairlift that leads up from Oberdorf is on the Gamsalp . In winter a ski lift begins a little below the Gamsalp and goes up to the summit at an altitude of 2070 m above sea level. M. leads. An alp farmer lives there in summer. A hiking trail leads along the Gamserrugg over the saddle into the Seeztal . Another hiking trail runs past the summit into the steep southern flank or east to the Voralp and Voralpsee .
