Top: Hits MCMXCI - MCMXCVII ( Top: Hits 1991 - 1997 ) is a best-of album by the German music group Die Prinzen . It was released on November 10, 1997 on the Hansa Records label .

Most of the songs on the album come from the five previously released studio albums by Prinzen Das Leben is cruel (four songs), Kissing forbidden (four tracks), Alles nur stolen (three pieces), Schwein (one track) and Alles mit'm Mouth (two songs). The song In the night, man doesn't like to be alone appeared as the B-side on the single Verdammelte Food , while Sandman and Schlotterstein Anthem were included on various samplers. In addition, the previously unpublished pieces Ganz oben , The Last Schrei and Junimond are included on the record.

Various producers were involved in the production of the songs selected for the compilation . Twelve of the twenty songs were produced by music producer Annette Humpe . Five productions come from the princes or their member Wolfgang Lenk. Graham Laybourne, Achim Hagemann and Stefan Raab were also involved in the production of individual pieces.

Cover design

The album cover shows a gray and white frog sculpture wearing a crown. The background is kept in dark blue tones. In the upper part of the picture are the lettering Die Prinzen in white and Ganz Abben in orange, while the orange lettering Hits MCMXCI - MCMXCVII is at the bottom of the screen.

The album entered the German charts at number 34 on November 24, 1997, and two weeks later reached the top position at number 23. In total, the sound carrier was able to stay in the top 100 for eleven weeks. The album did not reach the charts in Austria and Switzerland.

The title song Ganz oben , on which the Thomanerchor Leipzig is also represented, was released as a single in advance . The song rose to number 82 in the German charts and stayed in the top 100 for six weeks. In addition, the piece Junimond (a cover song by Rio Reiser ) was released as a second single in 1998, but could not place in the charts.
