Gao Wan (born August 24, 1987 ) is a former Chinese tennis player .
Career
Gao played very few matches on the ITF Junior Tour. Instead, he appeared more regularly from 2006 on the third highest professional series, the ITF Future Tour . This year he was able to place himself in the tennis world rankings for the first time . In 2007, he played outside of futures for the first time in qualifying for the ATP Tour event in Beijing . In doubles he even got a wildcard for the main field, in which he competed with his compatriot Li Zhe . Against the pairing of Rik De Voest and Ashley Fisher , they could only record one game win in the two-set defeat.
In 2008 and 2009 he fell temporarily out of the world rankings, as he sometimes did not play tournaments for months. In September 2008 he won his first future title in doubles. Also in 2008, Gao came to his only appearance for the Chinese Davis Cup team when he lost in the insignificant fifth match. His second and last appearance on the World Tour at the Shanghai Masters was similar to his first. With Yu Xinyuan he lost to Julian Knowle and Jürgen Melzer .
In 2010 he was the highest in the world rankings with 829th place in the singles, where he started less often. In doubles he fought his way up to 501 in the world after two more titles at the end of 2010. His greatest success followed in 2011 in Toyota . With his twin brother Gao Peng as a partner, he was able to reach the final of a challenger there. There they lost 4: 6, 1: 6 against the duo from Hiroki Kondo from Japan and Yi Chu-huan from Taiwan. He was able to win one title in 2012 and four titles in 2013 with Gao Peng in doubles. He reached the highest position in the world rankings with position 319 on April 23, 2012. Before that, he had finished 2011 in position 370, which is his best position at the end of the year. After only three future tournaments, he ended his tennis career in March 2014.
