The Garather SV (officially: Garather Sportverein 1966 eV ) is a sports club from the Garath district of Düsseldorf . The first women's soccer team once took part in the DFB Cup .

history

The association was founded in 1966. In addition to football, the club also offers boules / pétanque , judo , tennis , table tennis and gymnastics. The home ground of the football department is the Garath district sports facility .

Soccer

The soccer players were promoted to the then second-class Regionalliga West for the first time in 1995 , but had to return to the Niederrhein Association League after a year. In 1998 the team won the Lower Rhine Cup and qualified for the DFB Cup competition. In the first round the Garatherinnen were subject to TuS Köln rrh. with 1: 4. In 2000 he was promoted again to the regional league. Despite fifth place, the team was withdrawn at the end of the season. In 2004 the Garatherinnen rose to the regional league for the third time. After two years, the relegation followed as a knocked-off bottom of the table. Together with FC Oeding , the club holds the record with the most defeats. Both teams lost 21 of 22 games in one season. In the 2016/17 season, the women's team plays in the district league. The most famous former soccer player of the club is Inka Grings . She played in the women's national team until 2012 and won the World Cup twice with it. The men's team of Garather SV plays in the district league A.

Judo

With Alexandra Schreiber , Garather SV provided a successful judoka . In 1987 she became world champion and twice European champion in the class up to 66 kilograms.
