Philipp Mohammed Kotoku Lartey ( [laːɐ̯ˈtaɪ̯] ; born December 4, 1986 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German - Ghanaian soccer player who was used as a two-footed offensive player , especially in midfield , but also partly in defense. For Rot Weiss Ahlen and Hansa Rostock , Lartey played a total of 34 games in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Career

Youth in Düsseldorf and Leverkusen

Lartey, who was born in Düsseldorf to his father from Ghana and his German mother, began his football career at the age of three when he was registered with Garather SV from Düsseldorf-Garath by his brother Ismael . Via the intermediate stop at VfL Leverkusen , Lartey came to the Bayer 04 Leverkusen youth department in 2001 at the age of 14, where he subsequently went through the B and A youth teams. The A-youth Leverkusens played from 2003 under coach Thomas Hörster in the newly founded U-19 Bundesliga , so that Lartey came to 20 in the premiere season 2003/04 and in the following season 2004/05 to another 22 appearances in this division. Overall, Lartey scored twelve goals for Bayer in these two seasons, but the team could not qualify for the final round of the German A-Juniors championship , first in fifth and then third in the final table of their season .

Lartey at Bayer Leverkusen

Even as an A-youth, Lartey had already participated in the Leverkusen second representation in the men's area from September 2004, so that he had made a total of five appearances in the fourth-class Oberliga Nordrhein in the course of the 2004/05 season and so the team finally achieved promotion had contributed to the third-rate regional league . From the summer of 2005, Lartey moved to the Leverkusen's men's area, depending on his age. In the 2005/06 season , Lartey then contributed eight goals in 27 missions to keep the team coached by Ulf Kirsten in eleventh place in the table, but in 2006/07 the Bayer reserve played less successfully and finally rose to the Oberliga Nordrhein as the penultimate in the final table . Lartey also fell short of the expectations placed in him and had only scored one goal within 25 appearances. In the league, however, Lartey increased his performance in 2007/08 and contributed with twelve goals in 30 missions to the direct resurgence of Leverkusen in the regional league, which was only the fourth highest division from summer 2008 as a result of a division reform.

Change to Kiel and return to North Rhine-Westphalia

In August 2008 Lartey moved to the north of Germany, where he joined the Kiel SV Holstein coached by Peter Vollmann , who played in the regional league in 2008/09, as did Leverkusen's reserve team, with a contract period of one year . In his 31 missions, Lartey then contributed to the fact that the team could win the championship of their season and so could advance to the 3rd division founded a year earlier . In order to achieve this goal, the club management had also replaced the coach in winter and appointed Falko Götz as the new trainer, under whom Lartey had to take on more defensive tasks, so that he had all scored his five goals this season during the first half of the season. In spring 2009 he was also named “Footballer of the Year 2008 in Schleswig-Holstein” because of these achievements.

Instead of moving up to the 3rd division with Holstein, Lartey moved one league higher to the second division Rot Weiss Ahlen in the summer of 2009 , with whom he signed again for an initial year. Under coach Stefan Emmerling , however, Ahlen started the 2009/10 season weakly , with Lartey receiving a red ban on matchday two and soon afterwards suffering an inner ligament injury in his left knee, as a result of which he was out almost the entire first half of the season. During the second half of the season Lartey became a regular player in Ahlen, but the team now managed by Christian Hock could no longer prevent relegation at the end of the season.

Lartey at Hansa Rostock

Lartey then moved to FC Hansa Rostock in the summer of 2010 , who had been relegated to the 3rd division together with Ahlen from the 2nd Bundesliga. Lartey again signed a one-year contract with the Ostseestädtern and also met Peter Vollmann, who had already been his coach in Kiel, as well as Michael Wiemann and Sebastian Pelzer , with whom he had already played in Ahlen. Thereupon Lartey developed again to the top performer of his team, scored ten goals in 37 missions in the 2010/11 season and finally achieved direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with Hansa. Lartey also won the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup with Hansa , to which he had contributed with three goals in four appearances. In the meantime, Lartey had already extended his contract, which expired at the end of the season, by another two years to 2013 in March 2011.

In the following second division season 2011/12 Lartey was able to assert himself with 14 appearances during the first 14 days of play as a regular in Rostock's midfield, although the club with Marek Mintál had committed further competition for his position. From the end of November 2011, however, Lartey suffered from an inflammation of the pubic bone , which caused him to be out for several months. In February 2012 Lartey therefore underwent a pubic bone operation, so that he was only able to play a game for the Rostock reserve team in the Oberliga Nordost on May 1, 2012 and then play for the professional team again five days later on the last day of the season. The relegation of the team, which had meanwhile been trained by Wolfgang Wolf , to the third division was already certain with the previous matchday, which meant that Lartey's contract in Rostock lost its validity. He then signed a new one-year contract with Hansa; After the first day of play, however, he was diagnosed with pubic bone inflammation again, so that he had to take a break for a few months again. After Lartey was unable to play another assignment for Hansa until the end of the season, in which Hansa had only been relegated on the penultimate match day, he did not extend his contract in order to concentrate fully on recovery.

Lartey returned to his native Düsseldorf and joined the amateur club SFD 75 Düsseldorf in 2014 , for which he played in the district league until 2016.
