Vollmann initially worked as a trainer for the clubs Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid, SG Wattenscheid 09 , Prussia Münster twice , Eintracht Trier , KFC Uerdingen 05 , Fortuna Cologne , Eintracht Braunschweig , Holstein Kiel twice , Real Tamale United , Real Sportive (Tema, Ghana). On May 31, 2010 he was introduced as the new head coach of Hansa Rostock . He worked there until his release in December 2011.

In February 2012 Vollmann became the new coach of the third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden as the successor to the released Gino Lettieri . He was released there in October 2013. "To build a future-oriented team by consistently integrating the existing young talent into a structure of experienced management players", the club management saw "as not implemented enough and therefore as at risk".

For the 2014/15 season , Vollmann returned to Hansa Rostock, where he was released in December 2014.

From June 30, 2015, he took over the position of head coach at VfR Aalen as the successor to Stefan Ruthenbeck, who had migrated to SpVgg Greuther Fürth . On January 17, 2018, the club announced that the contract with Vollmann, which expired at the end of the 2017/18 season, would not be extended.

For the 2019/20 season, Vollmann returned to Eintracht Braunschweig, this time as sports director.

successes

As a coach he reached fourth place in the Regionalliga Nord in 2001 with Fortuna Cologne and first place in 2008 with Holstein Kiel in the Oberliga Nord . In May 2002 Vollmann rose from the Regionalliga Nord to the 2nd Bundesliga with Eintracht from Braunschweig, which he had trained .

In 2011 Vollmann was able to bring FC Hansa Rostock back to the 2nd Bundesliga after just one year in the 3rd division. The team, which was newly formed after relegation, reached second place in the table in the 3rd division under his leadership and thus managed to gain direct promotion.
