Gare is a city in Tanzania , East Africa .
location
Gare is located in the Tanga region, surrounded by a basin of the Usambara Mountains , around 1,500 meters above sea level. The next larger town is the district capital Lushoto .
history
At the time of the German East Africa colony, there was a Catholic mission station of the same name in Gare, also called Neu-Cöln , which was founded in 1897 by South African Trappists . At the station, which consists of a church, school and residential buildings, mainly coffee and wine were grown.
Gare is the birthplace of the German politician Kai-Uwe von Hassel , who lived here in 1913 as the son of Captain a. D. the protection force and plantation owner Theodor von Hassel was born.
