The 2012 Copa Libertadores Femenina was the fourth edition of the only international women's soccer competition in South America. Twelve clubs from all ten national associations of the South American continental football association CONMEBOL took part in the tournament. After eleven days, the team from the Chilean club CSD Colo-Colo emerged victorious. This is the first time that no Brazilian team has secured the trophy. Karen Araya , the team captain of the victorious club, was named the best player of the tournament .
The mode was left unchanged compared to 2011. The twelve teams were assigned to three groups of four; the corresponding draw took place on October 9, 2012 at the headquarters of the Federación Pernambucana de Fútbol . The group winners and the best runner-up qualified for the semi-finals. In the event of a tie in the group stage, the goal difference was decisive for progress, then the number of goals scored and finally the result of the teams in question in their game against each other. If after that there was still balance, it was up to the organizers to decide how to proceed. If two teams had tied on points after a meeting on the last group match day, a penalty shoot-out attached to the game would have made the decision.
In contrast to the men's edition , all games in the tournament were played without return games.
The semi-finals were played on November 23rd and the game for third place and the final on November 25th, 2012. The venue for all four games was Vitória de Santo Antão . The final is described in more detail in the information box below.
