Gary / Chicago International Airport ( IATA code : GYY , ICAO code : KGYY ) is the airport of Gary , in the state of Indiana in the United States . The airport is three miles northwest of downtown Gary and 25 miles southeast of downtown Chicago . It serves the Chicago metropolitan area .

Airlines and Destinations

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Casino Express , Pan American , and Southeast Airlines each operated scheduled connections to various national destinations, including St. Petersburg (Florida) , Orlando (Florida) , Sanford (Florida) and Las Vegas for only short periods of time . On February 15, 2012 Allegiant Air took a scheduled service to Sanford. It is the first scheduled service from Gary in three years.

There are also charter flights to casinos such as B. in Atlantic City (New Jersey) or Biloxi (Mississippi) .

Transport links

The airport is located near I-65 and I-80 . Downtown Chicago is accessible via I-90 and I-94 .

There is a bus service from Gary Public Transportation Corp to the city of Gary .

In addition, the local trains of the South Shore Line run from Chicago to the airport. The train station is about 2.4 kilometers southeast of the airport.
