Gary M. "Bones" Berland (born May 9, 1950 in Gardena , California , † February 6, 1988 ) was a professional American poker player and five-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Poker career

Career

Berland achieved international fame through success at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas . Within the years 1977 bis 1979 he won five bracelets in the variants Seven Card Stud and Razz . In 1977 he finished second in the main event behind Doyle Brunson , but was left empty-handed due to the prize money structure at the time.

According to Brunson, Berland died shortly after the 1987 WSOP of a rare blood disease. Until then, Berland nearly 400,000 earned dollars in official tournaments .
