Gaspard Corrette

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gaspard Corrette (born around 1671, died before 1733) was a French composer and organist who was active in Rouen and Paris .

life and work

Little is known about his life. He was probably born in Rouen, where he was organist in the Saint-Herbland church . He moved to Paris around 1720. Gaspard Corrette is the father of the more famous musician and composer Michel Corrette (1707–1795).

The only work by Gaspard Corrette that has come down to us is his Mass du 8 e Ton ( Mass in the 8th tone ) "for the use of religious women ..." for organ , which was published in Paris in 1703. It is one of the last works written in the great French tradition of organ mass , as embodied by Guillaume-Gabriel Nivers , François Couperin and Nicolas de Grigny and others.
