The Gasthof zur Post is an inn in Ebenhausen , a district of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Schäftlarn in the Munich district . The building is registered as a monument in the Bavarian List of Monuments .

location

The inn is located in the historic center of Ebenhausen on Wolfratshausener Straße, corner of Rodelweg, on the Isar high bank at an altitude of 663  m above sea level. NHN . This means that it is about 100 meters above the Schäftlarn monastery, 800 meters to the east . About 200 meters north of the inn, a steep serpentine road leads down to the monastery. The Ebenhausen-Schäftlarn train station is about 100 meters west of the inn .

history

A monastery tavern was mentioned in a document as early as 1308 as the predecessor of the inn. In 1559 the innkeepers were given permission to serve catfish here .

The current main building of the inn dates back to the 18th century. At times it also served as a post office. Goethe is said to have stopped here on his trip to Italy in 1786 when his stagecoach wheel broke. The former barn used as a slaughterhouse also dates from the 18th century.

During the secularization in Bavaria , the property first came to the electoral rent office in Wolfratshausen in 1803 and changed to private ownership in 1805. Towards the end of the 19th century, an extension in the local style was built across the main building . On its first floor there is a large hall that originally served as a post room. After the Second World War , the hall was used as a cinema under the name “Post-Lichtspiele” . Later it served as a function room for parties.

The ballroom has not been in operation since 2010. In 2013 the inn was closed.

Extension from the 19th century

The main building is a massive two-story structure that is around 30 meters long and 16 meters wide and has a gable roof. A fresco on the gable end facing Wolfratshausener Strasse shows Goethe's arrival at the inn.

The two-storey extension is around 26 meters long and 14 meters wide and has a half-hipped roof . A tower with a pointed helmet is in front of the southern gable side . Balconies and arbors give the extension an alpine character. The ballroom can be recognized from the outside through large arched windows. Inside it has a gallery and a stage.

At the former host Stadel still is covenant-timbered wall of the 18th century preserved.
