history

Gaurettersheim was already an important ecclesiastical base for the communities in the area in the Romanesque period. In the place of today's parish church there was a central building , which was first mentioned in 1294. According to a legend , Gaurettersheim, Grünsfeldhausen and Oberwittighausen were created by a giant whose supposed rib is still kept in today's church. In 1972 the place became part of the municipality of Bütthard.

Attractions

The center of the village is the Catholic parish church of St. Michael. The current building dates back to the second half of the 19th century and was built as a hall with a retracted tower. The tower attached to the west ends with a pyramid roof . Originally the church was surrounded by fortifications. The cemetery is located near the church. The former rectory is a baroque building from the 18th century in the middle of the village.

Other buildings in the village have been preserved from the 18th and 19th centuries. Already in the 18th century the place lived from agriculture, the partly two-story buildings testify to a certain wealth of the inhabitants. Several wayside shrines and small memorials in the village and its surroundings can mostly be traced back to private donors.
