Villa Ernst Hermann Vogel

The Villa des Privatus' Ernst Herrmann Vogel is at Makarenkostraße 8 in the Niederlößnitz district of the Saxon town of Radebeul . As a side building, the sacred building of the Catholic-Apostolic Congregation was erected on the property at the same time as the villa and can be found today under number 6a.

villa

The large single-storey, listed country house-like villa was built in 1899/1900 together with the prayer room at the request of the building contractor Heinrich Völkel by Heinrich Hertzschuch from Radebeul for the private status Ernst Hermann Vogel on a corner plot.

The plastered building has a quarry stone base as a basement and a high knee floor with a loft. The rafters of the slate-covered gable roof are supported by carved wooden consoles, and the vented gables stand out strongly.

The traufständig aligned to Makarenkostraße house is in the main a two-storey Mittelrisaliten , also with conversation narrow gable, and on the back of the building there is a small dormer . The overhanging arches in the central projections are made of brick, the windows are framed by sandstone walls. In the right side view of the garden there is a massive porch .

The building has echoes of the Swiss style , with the side views being designed "in the style of the Saxon farmhouses in the Elbe region around 1860".

Catholic Apostolic Congregation

Prayer room of the Catholic Apostolic Congregation

After the expansion of the religious community that emerged from the revival movement to Germany around 1848, it reached Saxony around 1860. In 1871 the municipality in Dresden was confirmed by the state. Around 1898 this had around 60 members in the Loessnitz .

It was therefore decided to build a separate sacred building in Niederlößnitz in the form of a “prayer meeting room” for the Catholic-Apostolic daughter church. This was built as a side building of the newly built villa for Ernst Hermann Vogel.

The simple prayer room, designed for around 100 people, was given a two-manual Jehmlich organ in 1976 .

From 1905 "one of the most important clergymen of the time" of the Catholic Apostolic Congregation, Paul von Gersdorf (1835–1915), spent his old age in Niederlößnitz. From 1878 Gersdorf was an angel , i.e. bishop, in Görlitz and from 1897 in Halle (Saale) . Gersdorf was buried in the Radebeul-West cemetery.

Today Radebeul is the seat of the Catholic Apostolic Congregation in East Saxony .
