Obligatory Holiday

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obliged public holidays (lat. Festa fori "public feasts") are Sundays and feasts in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church on which the faithful are obliged to attend a Holy Mass .

“On Sunday and on the other required holidays, the faithful are obliged to take part in the celebration of the Mass; Furthermore, they have to abstain from those works and activities that hinder the worship service, the joy of Sunday or the relaxation owed for mind and body. "

This obligation is also called Sunday obligation or mandatory attendance. It can also be fulfilled by celebrating the evening before mass. For the pastor of a community there is an application obligation on required holidays , that is, he is obliged to celebrate a Holy Mass for the faithful entrusted to him.

The festa chori , which are only liturgically celebrated as “feasts” , have to be distinguished from the festa fori , which are celebrated by the whole community with holiday rest .
