Geert De Vlieger (born October 16, 1971 in Aalst ) is a Belgian football goalkeeper .

Career

De Vlieger began his career in the youth team of Edracht St. Gillis. The first big club that De Vlieger signed was KSK Beveren in 1989. In 1995 he moved to his first real big club, RSC Anderlecht , where he matured to become a national player in his home country Belgium. After a one-year stint at Harelbeke, which was followed by a six-month engagement at RSC Anderlecht, de Vlieger went to Willem II Tilburg in the Netherlands in January 2000 . From 2004 to 2006 the goalkeeper played for Manchester City in the English Premier League . In 2006 he moved to SV Zulte-Waregem . He stayed there until 2008, before ending his active career at Club Bruges until 2011 .

De Vlieger has played 43 times in the Belgian national soccer team and was a regular goalkeeper at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . He was also a member of the Belgian squad at EURO 2000 , but was not used at this tournament.
