action

Before marrying his current wife, Chris had a romance with Marian, his childhood sweetheart. One day she disappears without a trace and no longer answers. After 15 years he runs into her in a supermarket when he asks for directions. But she pretends not to know him and runs away from him.

A plumber is called to the family home to fix the washing machine. After the repair, the man asks the family man Chris to be allowed to use the toilet - an excuse. Because he actually sneaks into the oldest daughter's room and notes down the number of her cell phone, which he finds on her bedside table.

From then on, the man sends her many text messages with his declarations of love. He also sends packages with expensive gifts to her home. The parents learn of this dubious story and are worried about their daughter. Her father drives her to school fearing a possible kidnapping and picks her up from there.

Chris later tells his wife about his previous romance. He visits Marian in her supposed home and gives her a pebble that he had picked up with her on the beach. In this way he wants to refresh her memory. Marian reflects on the happy time with her childhood sweetheart and decides to call Chris and tell him the terrible truth about her kidnapping. But when he comes to the house of her kidnapper to pick her up, she does not manage to leave the house with him because she is afraid of the "network", a non-existent organization that the kidnapper invented to prevent her from escaping wanted to.

One night the plumber gets into the family home, enters the girl's room, and numbs her with chloroform . Tied up and gagged, he puts the girl in a sack and wants to leave the house. When the masked man is already on the stairs down, he is watched by the youngest daughter. Believing that it was Santa Claus, the girl tells her parents about the encounter. For the sake of his wife, the father takes care of everything in all the rooms. He notices that his eldest daughter Olivia is not in her bed. When he can't find her in the rest of the house either, he calls the family of one of her schoolmates and asks about his daughter's whereabouts.

Chris learns that his daughter last used her girlfriend's cell phone. He checks the received SMS. Since the secret admirer calls himself a "magician", Chris comes across the plumbing business "Abracadabra". He immediately drives to the relevant address and breaks open the front door. He finds his daughter locked in a room under the floor and frees her. But the plumber stands behind them and tries to prevent them from leaving by attacking and choking the father. Now Marian comes to the rescue. She attacks her tormentor with a hammer and hits his head until he finally goes down dead.

Reviews

“The claustrophobically photographed, heavily played thriller from 2005 is reminiscent of the case of the Austrian Natascha Kampusch , who was imprisoned for many years, in 2006 , but is apparently based on the martyrdom of the US American Colleen Stan . Conclusion: nightmarish, unfortunately close to reality. "
