Convoy QP 10

The Convoy QP 10 was an Allied Nordmeergeleitzug , in April 1942 in the Murmansk upstream Kola Bay was compiled and largely without charge into Icelandic Reykjavík drove. The Allies lost four freighters with 24,481 GRT in German submarine and air raids .

The convoy QP 10 consisted of 22 cargo ships. On April 10, 1942, they left Soviet Murmansk ( Lage ) in the direction of Reykjavík ( Lage ). The convoy's commodore was Captain DA Casey, who had embarked on Temple Arch . Until April 12, the Eastern Local Escort with the Soviet destroyers took Gremjaschtschi and Sokruschitelny and the British minesweeper Gossamer , Harrier and Hussar the Nahschutz the convoy. From April 10 to 21, Ocean Escort also took over the security with the cruiser Liverpool , the destroyers Oribi , Punjabi , Marne , Fury , Eclipse , the mine sweeper Speedwell and the UJ trawlers Blackfly and Paynter to Reykjavík. After the convoy was captured by the German aerial reconnaissance, a first attack by Junkers Ju 88 of the III took place on April 11th . Gruppe / Kampfgeschwader 30 from their Norwegian base in Bardufoss ( Lage ). In the process, she sank the freighter Empire Cowper (7,164 GRT). In contrast, the destroyers Hermann Schoemann , Z 24 and Z 25 could not find the convoy. On the night of 12./13. April U 435 attacked the convoy. After it had just missed the Punjabi , it sank the freighters El Occidente (6,008 GRT) and Kiev (5,823 GRT). On April 13th the III./KG 30 came back to the train, which sank the freighter Harpalion (5,486 GRT). On the way, 16 merchant ships and two minesweepers of the convoy PQ 14 joined the QP 10 because they had to turn back due to pack ice damage. The QP 10 reached Reykjavík in Iceland on April 21st. He lost a total of four freighters with 24,481 GRT.
