Beliza ( Bulgarian : Белица ; often also: Belitsa ) is a city in the southwest of Bulgaria . The city is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name Belitsa in Blagoevgrad Oblast . The closest city is Jakoruda . Beliza has a mild Mediterranean climate . Due to its many cultural sights, the city is popular with tourists. Since 2010 she has given its name to the Beliza Peninsula in Antarctica.

The municipality comprises 12 cities, 8 of them are in the Rhodope Mountains .

The total area of ​​the municipality is 293,536 hectares, of which 221,862 hectares are forest and 63,205 hectares are agricultural land used by farmers. The region is predominantly mountainous. The average slope of the region is 9.1 percent. The area includes parts of the Rila , Rhodope Mountains and a large area of ​​the Belishka Reka river valley.

Beliza station is located southeast of the city on the Rhodope Railway .
