The Havelhöhe Community Hospital is an acute hospital with an integrative approach and has been an academic teaching hospital of the Charité in Berlin-Kladow since 1997 . It is the only anthroposophic hospital in Berlin. It is located above the steep bank of the Havel on the extensive grounds of a former air force academy.

Medical departments

The hospital consists of 14 specialist departments, including emergency medical , surgical , internal and oncological departments and centers. Further departments are obstetrics , geriatrics , pain and palliative medicine , digestive disorders. The focus of the clinic is the oncological center. First aid is open around the clock.

The department for internal medicine includes general internal medicine, diabetology (with training courses), gastroenterology (digestive and metabolic diseases, intestinal center), cardiology (with three cardiac catheter laboratories and pacemaker therapy) and pulmonology (lung diseases, lung cancer center ). The interdisciplinary departments for pain, addiction, palliative and intensive care medicine form a separate focus.

The Department of Psychosomatic Medicine / Psychotherapeutic Medicine has areas for adults, adolescents and drug withdrawal patients and a day clinic. From here the integrated psychosomatic treatment of the patients takes place on the three internal wards ( gastroenterology , cardiology and pulmonology ). The department also offers treatment modules that can be attended by all patients in the clinic.

The surgery department includes tumor surgery (colon, pancreas, stomach, liver cancer, metastasis surgery ), minimally invasive surgery (MIS), interventional endoscopy , thyroid surgery (benign and malignant changes) and plastic surgery with reconstructive surgery ( reconstructive surgery ) , Breast surgery , hand surgery and aesthetic surgery.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has the cancer center and the Gynecological Cancer Center, all modern methods of diagnosis and therapy. Since September 2005, Havelhöhe has been one of the "quiet-friendly hospitals" in Germany.

It is one of the three large anthroposophic acute clinics in Germany, which in addition to modern emergency medicine for the local population also offers the additional treatment options of anthroposophic medicine.

history

The buildings of today's Havelhöhe Hospital were built from 1934. After the war, the property was initially run as a center for tuberculosis in 1950 . In the 1960s it was converted into a general hospital and until the end of 1994 it belonged to the Spandau Municipal Hospital . The clinic has had its anthroposophical orientation since 1995. At that time, Havelhöhe was found to be superfluous as a regular hospital.

The sponsorship of the former city hospital was taken over by the non-profit association for the promotion and development of anthroposophically extended healing art eV Berlin . This now traded in the legal form of a GmbH . Soon afterwards, increasing clinical research activities began to develop and evaluate concepts for the anthroposophic medicine practiced in the Havelhöhe Community Hospital (GKH).

Patients of all health insurers are treated at the Havelhöhe Clinic.

Building stock

The Havelhöhe community hospital is located on a spacious, partially wooded area. Patient care takes place in several buildings and there are parking spaces for cars.

The buildings at Kladower Damm 221 were built from 1934 as a training facility for the German Air Force opposite Gatow airfield . Soldiers trained there were part of the Condor Legion , which intervened on General Franco's side during the Spanish Civil War . Hellmuth Volkmann , the former head of the Condor Legion, headed the Air War Academy on Kladower Damm from 1939 . Around 2000, mainly the interior of the six ward houses and the outbuildings were redesigned. The houses on the 18 hectare forest area are under monument protection.

At the end of 2010, the central operating room was rebuilt.

Mission statement

At the Havelhöhe community hospital, the three dimensions of “mind, soul and body” are given a balanced consideration in diagnostics and therapy. In addition to conventional medicine, natural remedies, painting therapy, music therapy, rhythmic massage and eurythmy therapy, a type of anthroposophic movement therapy, are used. The medical work takes place from a scientific point of view and is supplemented by healing methods influenced by anthroposophy . The special offers of anthroposophic medicine are also financed through an additional fee negotiated with the health insurance companies. The services are recognized by the legislator.

In 2007, in a larger patient survey, the hospital was given the best rating among a large number of participating clinics.

Supply infrastructure and equipment

The hospital has the usual indirect supply infrastructures such as a newspaper kiosk, public patient library, flower shop, restaurant / café, and a clothing store. There is a bus stop directly in front of the hospital with connections to Berlin-Spandau and the center of Berlin-West. There is also a Waldorf school on the premises. Donkeys, horses, sheep and billy goats are kept there, which are also used for animal-assisted therapy in psychosomatic medicine .

The location in nature not far from the Havel , the renouncement of televisions, the chosen colors and also the shapes of the newly designed paths meet the requirements of an anthroposophical hospital. On each ward there is a room for eating together and other common rooms.
