occupation

Genesis is a French documentary film by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Pérennou from 2004. Pictures from nature are highlighted with the comments of an African shaman ( Sotigui Kouyaté ).

background

After the success of their predecessor film Mikrokosmos - Das Volk der Gräser , the directors Marie Pérennou and Claude Nuridsany said they did not want to shoot a continuation of their multi-award-winning documentary about insects under any circumstances and therefore turned to another topic, namely the origin of the universe and the Life . They convey the scientific theory in the form of a creation myth that is told by the shaman.

production

The studied biologists Nuridsany and Pérennou planned the film scene by scene over a period of two years before they began shooting. These took place on the Galapagos Islands , Iceland and Madagascar , but also in the studio and took a total of four years.

DVD and other publications

The German DVD of the film was released by EuroVideo in 2005 and contains, as bonus material, a conversation with the creators (“Genesis: Entretiens”), a shooting diary (“Genesis: Carnet de Tournage”) and the German cinema trailer . The soundtrack by Bruno Coulais was published on CD by EMI and contains an audio CD as well as an additional DVD with a making-of of the soundtrack. The book on the film, which was written by the directors themselves and designed as an illustrated book with lyrical texts, was published by Gerstenberg .
