description

Vegetative characteristics

Genlisea taylorii is an annual herbaceous plant . The bare, spatulate and at the end blunt leaves are in a dense, native rosette, are 3.5 to 5 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide. The few traps have a length of 5 to 15 millimeters.

Generative characteristics

The upright, unbranched inflorescence stem is 7 to 8 centimeters high, cylindrical in cross section and completely bare, but with a few scaly leaves. The scale sheets are lanceolate with a length of about 0.8 millimeters. The bracts are lanceolate and shorter than the scale sheets . On the inflorescence there are one to three flowers on upright, 1 to 3 centimeters long, while anthesis and bare flower stalks that continue to grow to fruit ripeness .

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic with a double flower envelope . The calyx is five-lobed and almost divided up to the base, the individual lobes are almost uniformly shaped, ovate-lanceolate, tapering to a point, up to 1 millimeter long and covered with a few short glandular hairs at the base. The up to 10 millimeters long crown is light lavender to purple, at the throat with white spots between light lilac reticulated structures, the upper lip whitish. The 2 to 3 millimeters long and 2 to 2.5 millimeters wide upper lip is oval, oblong and round and tapers sharply towards the upper, truncated end, the clearly three-lobed lower lip is up to 5 millimeters long and 7 millimeters wide. The spur is 6 to 7 millimeters long.

The sickle-shaped stamens are about 1 millimeter long. The ovary is round and weakly hairy with short-stalked glands. The short style ends in a single lobe and semicircular scar .

Distribution and location

Genlisea taylorii is only known from the Moxico district in Angola , where it occurs on iron-crust soils in wet depressions. The range is known for locally endemic species such as Dopatrium pusillum or Dopatrium caespitosum ( Plantaginaceae ).

Systematics and botanical history

The first description of Genlisea taylorii was made in 2000 by Eberhard Fischer , Stefan Porembski & Wilhelm Barthlott based on previously collected in 1938 in Angola material. The specific epithet taylorii honors the English botanist Peter Taylor for his extraordinary contribution to the water hose family . Like all African species, Genlisea angolensis belongs to the Genlisea section within the genus Genlisea . According to Fleischmann 2012, Genlisea taylorii Eb.Fisch., Porembski & Barthlott is a synonym for Genlisea subglabra Stapf .

Apart from the holotype , no other specimens of this taxon are known.
