Geoffrey Harcourt

Geoffrey Colin Harcourt AC (born June 27, 1931 in Melbourne ) is an Australian economist and economic historian.

Geoff Harcourt was the son of Kenneth Kopel Harcourt and Marjorie Rahel Harcourt, b. Goose, born. He attended Malvern Grammar School and Wesley College in Melbourne. From 1951 he studied at the University of Melbourne , where he earned the Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) in 1954 and the Master of Commerce in 1956 . His master's thesis is entitled Pilot Survey of Savings in Melbourne. He went to Cambridge , where he was a student of Joan Robinson and Nicholas Kaldor and a Ph.D. promo advantage was. In 1958 he went to the University of Adelaide , where he worked as a Lecturer (1958–1962), Senior Lecturer (1963–1965), Reader (1965–1967) and Professor (1967–1985). In 1988 he retired there . From 1982 to 1998 he was a fellow at Jesus College at the University of Cambridge and lecturer in economics (1982–1990). In 1988 he received the title Doctor of Letters. From 1990 to 1998 he was a reader for the history of economic theory at Cambridge.

Harcourt works on post-Keynesianism and the history of economic theory, especially capital theory .

In 1955 he married Joan Margaret Bartrop, with whom he has two sons and two daughters. His hobbies are running (not jogging ), cycling , cricket , Australian football , reading and politics .
