Geoffrey James Robinson (born August 10, 1937 in Richmond , New South Wales ) is an Australian clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church in Australia and auxiliary bishop emeritus in Sydney .

Life

The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and Patriarch of Cilicia , Grégoire-Pierre XV. Cardinal Agagianian , ordained him on December 20, 1961 as a priest of the Archdiocese of Sydney.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Sydney and titular bishop of Rusuca on January 23, 1984 . The Archbishop of Sydney, Edward Bede Clancy , donated him episcopal ordination on March 8, 1984 ; Co- consecrators were Luigi Barbarito , Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Australia, and James Darcy Cardinal Freeman , Senior Archbishop of Sydney.

He resigned from his position on July 15, 2004.

Others

In 1994, Robinson and other bishops founded the Towards Healing program to help educate children about child abuse.

In August 2015, Robinson said before a commission of inquiry in Sydney to investigate the abuse of minors in the Catholic Church that Pope John Paul II had only been silent; the bishops also loyally remained silent. The then Cardinal George Pell had started his own educational program and thus undermined a joint action by the Australian bishops. Robinson has advanced cancer.
