Stephan Albrecht Georg zu Schaumburg-Lippe (born October 10, 1846 in Bückeburg ; † April 29, 1911 there ) was Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe from 1893 to 1911 .

Life

Prince Georg was born on October 10, 1846 in Bückeburg . He was the son of Prince Adolf I zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1817-1893) and Hermine zu Waldeck-Pyrmont (1827-1910), the daughter of Prince Georg Heinrich zu Waldeck-Pyrmont and Emma von Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym . After initial military training, he moved to the University of Göttingen and devoted himself to the military as an officer of the Schaumburg-Lippi Jäger Battalion.

After the 7th Westphalian Jäger Battalion was relocated from Kleve to Bückeburg due to the military convention concluded between Prussia and Schaumburg-Lippe in 1867 , he held the rank of captain there . Like his father, he took part in the French campaign in 1870/71 and later served in the 11th Hussar Regiment in Düsseldorf ; In 1876 he was transferred to the Leibgardehusarenregiment in Potsdam , where he remained until 1879.

The Georgschacht colliery in Stadthagen is named after him.

Prince Adolf I. Georg died on May 8, 1893, and Georg took office.

Marriage and offspring

On April 16, 1882, in Altenburg , he married Princess Marie Anna of Saxe-Altenburg , the daughter of Prince Moritz of Saxe-Altenburg and Auguste of Saxe-Meiningen . The marriage had nine children:
