Auguste von Sachsen-Meiningen

Auguste Luise Adelheid Karoline Ida von Sachsen-Meiningen (born August 6, 1843 in Meiningen , † November 11, 1919 in Altenburg ) was a German noblewoman. She was the mother of Ernst II, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg .

Life

Auguste was born as the only daughter of Bernhard II , Duke of Saxe-Meiningen , and his wife Princess Marie of Hessen-Kassel . Her brother Georg , who was 17 years older, succeeded his father in 1866.

Augustes grandparents were Georg I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen , Princess Luise Eleonore zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg , Wilhelm II., Elector of Hesse and Princess Auguste of Prussia .

Despite the age difference, she had a good relationship with her brother. He was a big theater lover.

Marriage and offspring

On October 15, 1862, Auguste married Prince Moritz von Sachsen-Altenburg in Meiningen . He was fourteen years older than her and was a younger son of Georg, Duke of Saxony-Altenburg and Marie Luise of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . They had five children:
