Georg Adolf Caroc (born July 4, 1679 in Greifswald ; † 1730 or 1732 ibid) was a German lawyer and state syndic of Swedish Pomerania .

Life

Georg Adolf Caroc was a son of Alexander Caroc (1643-1711), professor of law at the university and assessor at the court in Greifswald . He studied history and law in Greifswald and Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in law in 1704 . After his return he became an adjunct at the law faculty in Greifswald in 1705 , where he lectured on international law and feudal law in Pomerania and published writings on legal and historical topics.

After the death of his father in 1711 he was given the office of State Syndic of Swedish Pomerania. The Great Northern War that was brought into the country in the same year put a great strain on the country and population. The state estates of the Swedish Pomerania delegated him to Stockholm in 1723 together with the district administrator Philipp Christian von Normann and the Stralsund city syndic Johann Friedrich Zander . There they brought about an ordinance in 1724 which, above all, brought the landlords burdened by debts and taxes a reduction in burdens and enabled the knighthood to retain their fiefdoms.

In the following years Caroc was attacked by a mental illness , because of which he had to be dismissed from the service as state counsel in 1728. After his death in 1730 or 1732, his handwritten works on the history of Pomerania came into the possession of the University Library of Greifswald .
