Georg Amft
Georg Amft (born January 25, 1873 in Oberhannsdorf , Glatz district , Province of Silesia , † March 9, 1937 in Bad Altheide ) was a German composer and music teacher . His compositions include a. Masses , hymns and instrumental music . It also gained importance through academic work in the field of folk song and local history research in the County of Glatz .
Life
Georg Amft was the son of an organist and choir director. After completing elementary school, he attended the Royal Preparation Institute in Bad Landeck and then from 1890 to 1893 the teachers' college in Habelschwerdt . He then received an assistant teaching position at Trachenberg , and in 1896 he became a teacher at Potsdam . After attending the College for School and Church Music in Berlin-Charlottenburg , he became a music teacher at the Habelschwerdter teachers' seminar in 1901, succeeding his teacher Wilhelm Kothe. a. Georg Hartmann was his student. In 1911, the year of publication of the "Folksongs from the County of Glatz", which he had collected and edited, he was given the title of "Royal Music Director". In 1914 he was called up for military service, two years later he became a music teacher at the teachers' college in Bromberg . In 1919 he returned to the Habelschwerdter teacher training college. When this was dissolved in 1927, he was a teacher at the local advanced school until 1935.
After retiring in 1935, he settled in Bad Altheide, where he died on March 9, 1937. An obituary by Alois Schirdewahn appeared in the magazine of the Association for the History and Antiquity of Silesia .
