Georg Conrad Horst

Georg Conrad Horst (born June 26, 1767 or 1769 in Lindheim ; † January 20, 1832 there ) was a German Protestant theologian , preacher and writer . He is the author of a number of works on magic and occultism , of which his extensive magic library should be emphasized, which is considered to be one of the "three great ghost classics from Goethe's time".

Life

Georg Conrad Horst was a son of the pastor Kaspar Horst in Lindheim in the Wetterau . He studied Protestant theology at the University of Giessen and, after the death of his father, succeeded him as pastor of Lindheim.

In 1809 he was appointed to the Grand Ducal Hessian Church Council. In 1819 he resigned his pastoral office and devoted himself entirely to his research and publications. In 1823, Grand Duke Ludwig I appointed him a secret clergyman , and in 1824 he received an honorary doctorate in theology from the University of Giessen.

Magic library

In his magic library (with full title: magic library or of sorcery, theurgy and mantic, sorcerers, witches, and witch trials, and ghostly apparitions.
