Georg Drewes

Georg Drewes (* 1806 in Bremen ; † 1842 ibid) was a royal Hanoverian court , gold and silver worker.

Life

Georg Drewes was born in 1806 as the son of the Bremen gold and silver worker Hans Drewes . From 1821 he learned from his father before going on a hike from December 26, 1824 to February 1826 and then again from December 1831 to November 1833. During this period he worked in Stuttgart in 1826 with Georg Christian Friedrich Sick , in 1827 in Vienna as a chaser with " Joh. Grünes ", 1827 to 1829 in Hamburg with Ludwig Berg , 1832 in Hanover with the gold worker Jacob Petersen and finally from 1832 to 1833 with the Gold and silver workers Heinrich Wilhelm Mehlbaum also work in Hanover . In 1834 Drewes was awarded the championship title; on August 5th of the same year he took the citizenship oath of the city of Hanover.

While still working in gold and silver, Drewes received the order for a silver centerpiece , which was intended as a gift for the historian of the Royal German Legion, Major North Ludlow Beamish . The work of art was then examined by a commission of experts at the request of the “gift committee” of the trade association for the Kingdom of Hanover and received the praise “excellent” from them.

After the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover ended , Georg Drewes was soon appointed "Goldsmith Sr. Majesty of the King" Ernst August von Hanover . Drewes, who maintained an "institution for embossed silver ornaments", last worked as a court, gold and silver worker in 1841/42. His widow Doris, née Hische, was listed in the address books of the royal residence city of Hanover from 1843 to 1858.

Other works from Grewes' workshop, such as table candlesticks, creamer or tablespoons, are mostly scattered in private hands.
