Georg Elsner

Paul Johannes Georg Elsner (born April 13, 1887 in Görlitz , † January 14, 1949 in Stuttgart ) was a German politician ( SPD , ASPD ).

Life

After attending elementary school and later the technical and training school Elsner learned from 1901 to 1905, the Täschnerhandwerk . In this profession he then worked in different areas of Germany until 1913. In 1906 he joined the SPD. From 1907 Elsner lived in Dresden , where in 1909 he took over the local administration of the union of the Sattler- und Portefeuillerverband . In 1913 he became a union secretary . From 1919 to 1925 Elsner was a city councilor in Dresden.

In November 1923 Elsner was first appointed Saxon Minister for Labor and Welfare by Prime Minister Alfred Fellisch . He also held this office under Prime Ministers Max Heldt and Wilhelm Bünger . In this capacity Elsner was also the representative of Saxony in the Reichsrat . In the so-called " Saxon conflict " within the Saxon Social Democracy, he supported the Prime Minister Max Heldt and became a member of the Old Social Democratic Party of Saxony . On January 21, 1930, after massive attacks by the NSDAP in the Saxon state parliament , Elsner resigned from his office because of alleged corruption .
