Georg Frey

Georg Frey (born April 3, 1902 in Munich ; † August 28, 1976 ) was a German textile manufacturer ( Lodenfrey company ) and beetle collector .

Georg Frey graduated from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1921 . In 1927 he received his doctorate from the University of Erlangen Dr. phil.

Frey brought together a large collection of over two million beetles . He employed three to five people to look after his private museum ( Museum G. Frey ), initially in Munich and later in Tutzing . Frey also founded the series Entomological Works from the Museum G. Frey , which appeared in 56 volumes by 1987.

His widow sold his collection to the Natural History Museum in Basel in 1986 .

With his company Loden-Frey , like other large companies, he also benefited as a uniform supplier from the " Aryanizations " and the deployment of concentration camp inmates and prisoners of war .

After the war, Georg Frey declared with regard to his involvement in Nazi organizations a. a .: "This influence did not seem to contradict my religious convictions, since the concordat was concluded at that time and church circles did not express any concerns."
