Beetle collectors

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bug collector is a collector of beetles .

The beetle collector often has no specific academic qualification, but rather practices collecting beetles as a hobby out of an interest in nature. However, numerous collectors are so familiar with the area that they also make contributions to scientific beetle science, to coleopterology . In addition to the hobby collections, there are scientific collections where the beetles are scientifically processed by entomologists ( entomologists ), coleopterologists (beetle researchers) and other experts. For example, Georg Frey's beetle collection, comprising around three million copies, was included in the register of the national valuable cultural property of Bavaria and, among other things, only loaned to the Natural History Museum Basel under the condition that the collection "must be preserved in its entirety and scientifically developed" .

Even Charles Darwin began in his youth as a beetle collector before he became a scientist. One of the most popular beetle collectors of the 20th century was the writer Ernst Jünger , after whom the Ernst Jünger Prize for Entomology was named.
