Bockari Kortu Stevens

Bockari Kortu Stevens (born December 30, 1950 in Moyamba ) is a Sierra Leonean diplomat and politician ( APC ). He has been Sierra Leone's ambassador to the United States since 2008 .

Life

As a secondary school he attended the Albert Academy in Freetown . He graduated from Fourah Bay College in Freetown in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science . In June 1982 he graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resources . Later, from September 2001 to June 2002, he did a Master of Arts in Refugee Studies at the University of East London . At Capella University , a commercial distance university , he took a doctorate degree.

Bockari Kortu Stevens founded the youth organization National Youth League of the All People's Congress party .

From 1976 to 1981 he was Head of Human Resources for the Sierra Leone Port Authority. In London , he worked from 1993 for various non-governmental organizations : as a local development worker for the Association of Sierra Leone Refugees , as an aid worker in refugee forum in the Borough of Newham , for the Children's Society Refugee and Homeless Team and as aid workers for grassroots organizations like the Action for Voluntary Organizations from Southwark .

He is a nephew of Siaka Stevens (1905–1988), who was Sierra Leone's president from 1971 to 1985. Bockari Kortu Stevens is married and has five children.

Diplomatic career

Bockari Kortu Stevens was Sierra Leone's Ambassador to Guinea from 1988 to 1992 with co-accreditation for Cape Verde , Mali and Guinea-Bissau . In January 2008, he was appointed Sierra Leone's Ambassador to Washington, DC , succeeding Sulaiman Tejan-Jalloh . He took up the post in March 2008. He is co-accredited for Brazil , Canada , Jamaica , Venezuela , Guyana , Trinidad and Tobago , the Bahamas , the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund . In May 2014 he was appointed spokesman for the embassies of the West African states in Washington.
