Georg Grabenhorst (born February 21, 1899 in Neustadt am Rübenberge , † June 9, 1997 in Bad Bevensen ) was a German writer.

Life

Georg Grabenhorst was the son of a master chimney sweep . He took part in the First World War as a flag boy . From 1918 he studied history, art history, modern literature and philosophy at the universities in Marburg and Kiel . In 1922 he earned his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Kiel with a dissertation on the work of the author Gustav Frenssen . From 1924 Grabenhorst lived as a freelance writer. From 1930 to 1945 he worked as a consultant for culture and land maintenance in the administration of the province of Hanover . After the National Socialist seizure of power he was regional director of the Hanover Chamber of Literature. After 1945 he worked as a government director in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education .

Georg Grabenhorst's literary work includes novels, short stories and poems. In addition, from 1922 to 1942 he worked for the " Hannoversche Kurier " and from 1949 to 1956 editor of the magazine " Niedersachsen ". - In his 1928 debut novel "Fahnenjunker Volkenborn", Grabenhorst describes his experiences in the First World War. The book, of which an English translation was published as early as 1929, was on the 1947 " List of literature to be sorted out " in the Soviet occupation zone .
