Life

George Gruel was a member of an old, from Mecklenburg originating patrician family . He himself came from the city of Güstrow and studied at the University of Rostock from April 1510 . Here he received his bachelor's degree in the winter semester of 1512/13 and his master's degree in the winter semester of 1514/15 . As a master's degree he first taught at the University of Rostock. In 1515 he went to the University of Greifswald , where he taught as a professor at the artist faculty , of which he was temporarily dean .

During the stormy times at the beginning of the Reformation - from 1527 to 1539 the university even had to stop teaching - he moved to the Greifswald City Council in 1535. He remained a councilor until 1564.

Georg Gruel always followed his relative Peter Gruel , who had already become a professor at the artist faculty in 1514, who also temporarily became its dean and who moved to the Greifswald council in 1520.
