Georg Heinrich Gercken

Georg Heinrich Gercken (* 1690 in Lübeck ; † February 7, 1744 there ) was a lawyer and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Georg Heinrich Gercken was the son of the mayor of Lübeck, Sebastian Gercken . He studied law in Kiel , Jena and Leipzig from 1706 to 1713. His Grand Tour took him to London , Paris , Strasbourg and Vienna . He also visited Prague , Nuremberg , Wetzlar with the Imperial Court of Justice and the Netherlands . In 1718 he became council secretary in his hometown Lübeck, in 1734 he rose to become the first council secretary ( protonotary ). In 1735 he became councilor of the city. During his term of office as councilor, the self-completion of the Lübeck council, forced by the citizens, fell in 1739 . Gercken married a daughter of the Lübeck mayor Daniel Müller .

As administrator of the Schabbel Scholarship Foundation , Gercken conducted extensive correspondence with August Hermann Francke .
