Georg Holub
Georg Holub (born November 29, 1861 in Brno , † April 6, 1919 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter .
Holub started out as a hairdresser and was later accepted at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts . At the Vienna Annual Exhibition in 1891 he made his debut with a landscape motif from the Sava .
In various Viennese exhibitions, mostly in the Künstlerhaus Wien , where he had been a member since 1905, he showed in strict naturalism motifs from the Eastern Alps in oil (e.g. Weißenfelsersee , Die Rax im Winter , Landschaft bei Schrems , hut on the Alm Waucha Krain - 1910, etc.) and watercolor (e.g. summer garden pavilion, wicker furniture in front of it - 1894, village church in a foothills of the Alps ). His rich work also included motifs from the south (e.g. seashore in the evening , a stony path in the south or a southern coastal landscape with a villa ).
Holub is considered an excellent landscape painter of his time, but he was also able to implement other motifs. Postcards with his motifs were also made (1906).
His grave is an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 16 A, row 11, no. 24), on his tombstone the year 1920 is incorrectly given as the date of death.
