Georg Pappas
Georg Zacharias Pappas (born May 24, 1928 in Győr , Hungary , † February 16, 2008 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian entrepreneur of Greek and Hungarian origin.
Life
Georg Pappas was the son of the Greek doctor Zacharias Pappas and grew up on his parents' estate in Hegyeshalom in Hungary. In 1945 the family moved to Salzburg.
He started trading automobiles at the age of 20. In 1951 he and his brother Dimitri Pappas got to know the director Günther Wiesenthal . With him, the Pappas brothers set up the Mercedes-Benz dealer network in Austria from 1952 . Georg Pappas succeeded Wiesenthal as managing director of the Mercedes-Benz central office from 1960, today's Mercedes-Benz Österreich Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH. The Styrian company Konrad Wittwar (1964) and the Upper Austrian company F. Zelenka (1972, today: Pappas Linz) were taken over. and the Tiroler Retterwerke AG (1986).
In 1965 he and his brother founded the construction company Alpine Baugesellschaft mbH
In 1990 the Pappas brothers founded the general agency Mercedes-Benz Magyarorszag Kft for Daimler-Benz AG in Hungary and thus expanded abroad for the first time. The Pappas Group has also been active in Upper Bavaria since 2005 .
From 2005, Commercial Councilor Georg Pappas gradually withdrew from the active business life of the Pappas Group and handed over the management of the company to his two children, Consul General Catharina Pappas and Commercial Councilor Alexander Pappas. Pappas died in Salzburg at the age of 80.
Offices
Until recently, Pappas was Vice Consul of the Republic of Greece for Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg.
