In 1952 Georg Pappas Automobil AG was founded in Salzburg and in 1960 Georg Pappas took over the management of the Mercedes-Benz central office, today's Mercedes-Benz Österreich Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, while Dimitri Pappas took care of important contacts. The company flourished and developed into one of the largest car dealerships in Central Europe. Georg Pappas built the automobile trading business with the establishment of branches in Salzburg (1957) and Vienna (1959) as well as the takeover of the Styrian company Konrad Wittwar (1964, now Pappas Steiermark), the Upper Austrian company F. Zelenka (1972, now Pappas Linz) and Tiroler Retterwerk AG (1986, now Pappas Tirol). These companies still form the basis for the automotive business in Austria today.

In 1990 Georg Pappas founded the Hungarian general agency Mercedes-Benz Magyarország Kft. And expanded abroad for the first time. In the meantime, a trading network with six locations has been set up in Hungary , Pappas Auto Hungary.

Pappas has also been active in Bavaria since 2005 and at practically the same time, other brands related to the core Mercedes-Benz brand were added to the portfolio, such as Chrysler , Jeep and Dodge . Dimitri Pappas died in 1999. Starting in 2005, Georg Pappas also gradually withdrew from active business life and died in February 2008. In 2005, the management of the company was handed over to the children of Georg Pappas, Alexander Pappas and Catharina Pappas. To this day, Pappas is 100% family owned.
